Hello! Mumsnet Jobs team here. We've noticed this thread is fairly old now, and some of the information is out of date. We've put together this article of advice, tips and tricks to start working from home. Alternatively, you can look at the work from home opportunities on Mumsnet Jobs. We hope this is helpful!

----------

I'm currently self-employed but business is very slow this year and I'm struggling, so I'm looking for employed work. However I'm a single parent with no childcare, which limits my options somewhat. My DS is 11 so can entertain himself while I work at home but he's not really old enough to leave for a full day while I'm out working in an office or whatever, so I'm looking for either term-time only or a WFH role - yep, I'm after the holy grail of jobs! I've been looking everywhere - from all the main job sites like Indeed and Monster to places like Gumtree - and the only WFH jobs seem to be Avon, MLMs, or just sound totally dodgy ("earn £5k per month working just 10 hours per week").

Does anyone have any suggestions of potential employers that offer genuine WFH roles? It doesn't have to be full time but ideally I need a regular number of definite hours per week, so I can budget properly. I have a spare room home office space and nearly two decades of experience in Marketing and Admin, so I'm raring to go. Smile

Try a specialist job site like time wise or one of the parent ones. Linkedin also good.

If you have admin experience I would suggest looking at board clerk roles. They offer flexible wfh with the occasional f2f meeting monthly or in some cases every three months. These type of roles tend to be on governing bodies for schools or councils / town councils and government bodies. They pay quite well and do give you the flexibility your looking for.

I have searched them, and am still doing so. Seems to be lots of MLM 'recommendations', which I'm not interested in, and piecemeal work on places like Fiverr which won't pay my rent, hence starting my own thread.

I've looked on Linked In but I've never heard of Timewise so I'll have a look, thanks for the heads up.

Board/Clerk roles sound great, thanks. I'll have a google and see what comes up locally.

I never find advertised jobs on LinkedIn it's more about keeping in touch with your network and posting regularly so that when people have something suitable they'll think of you.
There's lots of freelance bloggers and Facebook groups with tips on getting started with this.
