I am a director of the family company, DH is also a director and he's the only shareholder. I'm pregnant and we're trying to work out what we/I am entitled to. DH won't be taking any time off for paternity leave, I plan to go on maternity leave but... do I count as self employed or employee? I think it's possibly employee as the company will function in my absence and I'm not a share holder.
We have also been told that small businesses can claim back SMP either at the rate of 90% or 110% depending on the 'size' of the business.
I will check all this with our accountant in due course but we'd rather have an idea where we stand.
