Hello everyone, I have a question. I am with my company for the last two years My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby. My company have a great maternity leave package that enable me to get almost a year I off year with 90% of my salary for most of it. The problem is that I am so miserable at work. I am normally hard worker and passionate about what I do but I recently change to a new manager and I dont get along with him.

My job became all a sudden very stressful, dull and boring. I feel like crying on my way home every single day, feel lonely and dont seem to be able to do much about it (already wen to HR unsuccessfully).
My question is: should I start trying for a baby when I would be this miserable during my pregnancy or should I try to find a new job first (then delay the pregnancy for another year or two).
Have you had a similar situation? How do you deal with being miserable at work or bad management? Im 33.
Thanks for your comment :)

You have to consider whether the pros outweigh the cons.

Personally, knowing it would be another year or so before I would accrue any decent maternity pay - if I wanted a child I'd just grit my teeth and bear it.

Whenever it is bad just remember you are only staying for the mat package... Once you've fulfilled your obligations you'll be away!

I stuck with a job that I hated because it was convenient in terms of mat package. It really felt like I was playing the long game, it was such a slog. Plus I had a 'window' in which to conceive due to length of contract (no pressure). Luckily conceived as planned and carried on in the job I hated with mat leave as my carrot!! Miscarried (at work) at 10 weeks and my world fell apart. I went from 'just' crying on the way home because I hated it to being unable to go in the building. That experience put things into perspective and I decided no mat package was worth that level of stress, handed in my notice and never went back. Would rather be skint than compromise my health (mental and physical). Also make sure you know if you're obliged to return after mat as that can be a grey cloud lingering over your time off.

I found a lovely new job with the potential of a year off (majority unpaid) and was so much happier. Got pregnant, went on my planned year of skint mat leave and by the time LO was 9 months I was going insane after all wanting this "magical" year off more than anything!!. Pulled forward my return date and now have a great balanceSmile

Not wishing to be too negative but be aware that things don't always go according to plan! Good luck with you decision, it is a tough one!
