Standing/sitting desks

I work from home as a copywriter and have to spend hours in front of the computer. I've heard 'sitting is the new smoking' and am keen to do something to mitigate the effects of sitting on my backside for so long. I walk the dog before and after work and my working hours are concentrated between those walks, so taking another break and walking around isn't really an option.

I was reading about Sitting/Standing desks, which enable you to raise and lower the height of your keyboard and screen to allow working standing up or sitting down. I was thinking of splashing out and getting one - does anyone use one or have any opinions/insights into which are best?

I don't have an official standing desk, but I have my laptop on a shelf which means I can lift my keyboard up as needed. I find it good to be able to switch between the two and I try to walk around my office kitchen, sitting room when I'm on the phone. I was looking at ikea the other day and they have some which might be worth investigating.

I was thinking of something that you out on top of your existing desk - i don't want to get rid of my existing desk (an IKEA one that combines with a shelf unit). But I'll see what yhey have - Ikea is normally good vslue.

Bekant
Bekant is the uppy downy one I think. Not cheap, but worth it in terms of not having a fat arse

Do you know how easy it is to raise/lower?

Literally a touch of a button.

I always have a play with it on our monthly Ikea meatball dash......

Done some more research and have ordered one of these which will fit onto my existing desk, and is a bit cheaper than a new desk (that I have to assemble myself - never my favourite activity). Can't wait to see how it works!

I have my desk set up as a permanent standing desk due to back issues that mean I can't sit for long periods. It took a while to get used to but is generally good. I do wish tho that I could just sit down sometimes as when I have stood for several hours I am much more tired than I normally would be.
I am now looking at getting a laptop that I can move to the dining table when i fancy a sit down.
Good luck. I recommend a good soft pad or peice of extra carpet to stand on as the soles of your feet do get sore. I use a bathroom mat made out of memory foam and comfy slippers. Oh and keep moving. Stepping from one foot to the other really helps.

I bought one of the electronic desks a couple of years ago. I went for the electric option as I didn't like the idea of winding up and down the manual one, so thought the extra money would be beneficial as I only expected to be standing for a few hours a day and thought the desk would be up and down all day. Turns out it was a waste of money because I never have it lowered. I literally stand at it all day, every day, and it's the best purchase I've ever made. I have it set to the height where I can "lean" against it on my elbows which makes typing very comfortable. It's energised me enormously. I'm a lot less sluggish and far more alert, mentally and physically, all day. I used to have backpain which has completely disappeared. In fact, when I'm home and sat on the sofa, my body is crying out for me to stand and move about. I am overweight with diabetes and in the last two years, my weight has dropped by a couple of stone and my diabetes has moved downwards back into "pre-diabetes" state. I'd recommend it to anyone! It's literally adding years to my life! (And no, I don't sell them, just a satisfied user!)
