Question about NI Class 2 payments

I think I know the answer- but I do have to pay these forever, as long as I am working, yes? (And earning more than £x per week.)

Reason for asking is that I have enough contributions now for a full state pension (have had a prediction) which I will get in a few years from now. If I carry on working and receive a state pension (I have an occupational one too which I get now) will I still pay Class 2?

Hi pinkfrocks. I am thinking about going self-employed, and I'm certainly labouring under the impression that they will be mandatory once I register with HMRC as self-employed.

I could be wrong though.

What's your impression?

I'm pretty sure they are mandatory- just another form of tax really. They apply if you earn more than a certain amount each week- something very low like £60.

Reason for asking is when they send the quarterly statement is always says failure to pay may mean you don't get your full state pension, but I've already got enough contributions over a lifetime to pay for that- have gone online and done predictions and also had it in the paperwork from my occupational pension which is being paid now.

I think it's been announced that they are to be abolished after April 16.
