Hi. I gave Avon a try in early 2012, when DH was made redundant & we needed some extra income.

I'm sorry to say it didn't work for me. I was given an 'area' and walked the streets handing out books religiously. I did get some orders, just not that many, and the money I made as actual profit was so incredibly minimal that it really did not help at all!

It seems to be that Avon works for people who already have a job and can take books in to work and get orders easily that way, similarly (I suppose) for people who have a large group of friends or family who are going to want to order month in, month out. The one successful Avon rep I know does it to supplement her income & sells to work colleagues, friends, family & via a Facebook page.

In short, I don't see that door-to-door Avon selling is going to make you much money - especially not when you consider the literally hours of work you will need to put in preparing books, putting books out, getting books in, going back umpteen times for people who were out last time or who "hadn't had chance to look yet". And then you don't make ANY profit at all, until your sales reach a certain limit (used to be about £95 per campaign - there are 13 campaigns a year). That is a lot of shower gel Sad.

Hope that helps. Sorry to pee on your cornflakes, if door-to-door was what you had in mind.

Avon was a lot of hard work for very little return. I did it for a while about 3 years ago and stopped as I just wasn't making any money.

You are given a fairly small area to cover at first and hardly any books, so you rely on people leaving them out to be able to deliver them to the next 10-20 houses, so one street could take a week to deliver the booklet to let alone get any orders from.

It appears that the way to make money from avon is to recruit your own reps and earn commission from their ales as well as your own and keep recruiting until you have a huge team and area. The average door to door avon lady isn't going to earn anymore than pocket money.

Can I ask a question? I get an Avon book delivered every few weeks and never want anything from it. It's a pain sometimes having to remember to leave it out on the day they collect it. Would any of you that are Avon reps think it would be rude if I was to leave a note with it asking them not to leave it any more. Seems a waste for them to leave it when I know I won't be ordering.

NO not rude at all, just pop a note inside saying please don't deliver here, they should then make a note of it and not deliver it to your anymore.

Brilliant, thanks for that.

I used to do it and it is only pocket money, unless you are either in an area with no other Avon ladies or you're really, really hard-nosed and pushy.

Having said that, Avon's better than Kleeneze as you at least get territory assigned and aren't in direct competition with every other poor sod who's trying to make afew extra quid.

Hi, how come you wanted to try Avon, have you found anything else, looked elsewhere, Avon sounds like hard work to me, with very little return x

I'm an Avon rep and love it. I've built up a good lot of customers, both through walking my streets and online and earn a good part time wage. I usually put a note in with my books asking people to tick a box if they don't want any more books. I don't want to annoy people if they're not interested ☺️

I could't imagine going door to door, you want something where you actually get to stay at home. There are similar roles out there which are far superior to Avon's dated ways!
