Website Hosting - recommendations? 123-Reg are being a bit crap!

I have my online shop, built through wordpress, and hosted via 123-Reg. I use one of their more basic packages so don't expect amazing results, but my website is small at the moment. However, it runs really slowly, and I'm noticing more and more it just drops out completely and shows an error message. 123-Reg tell me it's because I am on a shared server so traffic to other websites can have an effect on the speed of mine, but I think if it's at the point where my website just won't load, than that is a pretty lame service really. I don't think I need to have my own personal server/VPS (nor can I afford to) but surely other companies must be able to offer a better service than this? Any thoughts or recommendations of hosting sites would be greatly appreciated! (And if you've transferred a WP site from one host to another, how straightforward was it?) Thanks!

That does sound crap!

I host several sites with Vidahost and am very happy with their service! They will also move your site to their server for free as part of the account setup.

Thanks! I have just bought a package with them for that very reason! Fingers crossed! :-)

I've used hostgator for the last few years to host my website (www.technical-recipes.com/).

Very reasonably priced, San Francisco based I think, but I've had no problems so far, especially with speed.

I use Go Daddy and have never had a problem, pricing is also very competitive
