Free pictures to use on my website

I am in the process of exploring Wordpress and trying to develop a website for my business. However, I need some photographs to use - preferably free!
I have tried freedigitalphotos.net but they dont seem to have what I am looking for, and the few suitable ones that I have found, I can't really resize them to fit my website.
Does anyone have suggestions of where I could look?
(I don't mind having a discrete credit to the photographer on my website.)

Thanks Les I will take a look on there.

I already tried that TalkinPeace and it quickly became apparent that photography is not my forte Grin and that's being generous! Though I may resort to trying that again now we have a better family camera.

Oops, forgot I'd posted on this!! If your local shopping centre and local boutiquey type shops have nice photos on their websites then contact their owners or marketing depts and ask if you can use particular images on your site (with a link back to their site of course). I've had a surprising amount of luck doing this with sites I've built.

Ooh that's a good idea NeverQuiteSure, I like the sound of that.
I am attempting to creat a website on Wordpress, but I'm a technophobe and it's very slow progress for me!
The photographs are just one of the many obstacles Smile

You'll get there, good on you for getting stuck in and giving it a go!

Quite a few Wordpress users here I think, so post if you have any problems and I'm sure there will be some good advice.

Quick update:
TalkinPeace2 I took your advice and tried again with taking my own photographs - and they've turned out pretty good! So thank you for the suggestion. Although I must ask, am I allowed to use any photographs that I have taken of anything, or are there any restrictions? I have pics of streets, shop frontages, window displays, and some of inside shops (with unidentifiable customers/shop assistants in them). I am allowed to use any of these as I choose?

And thanks for the encouragement NeverQuiteSure, I am getting the hand of Wordpress now and think I am using it effectively. Just need to sort my own domain name now, and get rid of those awful adverts on my site!
Does anybody know how Wordpress choose when to show these adverts? Despite me viewing my site frequently, the ads have only appeared once.

I know quite a bit about Wordpress so if you have any questions let me know.

Oh BoredEasily, I have just seen your post. Thank you for the offer, I would love to take you up on it if you don't mind?!

This is the main issue at the moment...
I previously had a website with MrSite. They own my domain name. I did not like using them so discontinued my contract with them. I have now built a basic but reasonable website with Wordpress. I've contacted MrSite to try to get my domain name released but they said they need another host to pass it on to, and they don't think they can do this with Wordpress. Do you know if this is right? Do Wordpress host themselves or do they use an outside source to host?
I am really out of my depth with all this, I have no idea what I'm doing Smile

Any help will be much appreciated.

Try Stock Exchange - sxc.hu - free stock imagery (quality variable! And you need to check the license to see if it's suitable for commerical usage).

You can also find things on Flickr.com, but you need to do an advanced search to check that the image results display images suitable for commercial use.

Hope that helps!

If you use a webhost, there are many who offer hosting packages under £25 a year, MrSite can then do a Domain Transfer to them.
Contact support of the webhost to find out what they need from MrSite to transfer the domain.

MrSite may be able to point the domain, for that you tell MrSite the name servers of the webhost and tell the webhost the domain name. The domain remains with MrSite who would bill you for renewals.

Thanks for the suggestion Lemony, in the end I actually went and took photographs myself as TalkinPeace suggested, and I'm pretty happy with them.

NannyNick I'm with Wordpress.com and they are hosting it themselves (I think?!), so I need to speak to MrSite again and see if they can transfer the domain name over to Wordpress, or at the very least point it to my new website. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, just google STOCK PHOTOS FREE, and you'll find sources with good free photosyou can use for your website. I am on to launch a Wordpress site ,too ( from www.templatemonster.com/buddypress-wordpress-themes.php ), and I know there are many decent sources with quality free pics, just need to find them.
