We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

    The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and cream

(we?re avoiding yellow or pink this time)

Ideas for squares:

Wubbly had a dream/vision, which I hope MrWubbly won?t mind me mentioning here:

?When we die that is what we become, millions of dust particles. And that we go back to earth in a million different places to sit on top of mountains, become snow flakes and grains of sand. We become a part of earth. We really never leave. "

  • With that in mind, any motifs of the natural world and from Wubbly?s vision would be very special to the family.

  • Also the initials W for Wubbly and Wendy, D for David and L for Lawrie.

*MrWubbly has also said that Lawrie loves Cars and a programme called The Octonatuts (it?s all about sea life and his favourite characters are Kwazii and Peso).

Please don?t feel daunted by these ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Am quite happy to donate wool again, as even though I will be in the UK, I can just imagine me failing utterly to complete a square in time (looks guiltily at the sleeveless jumper for DS that's been on the needles for the last 2 years awaiting completion).

these are the octonauts - Kwazi is a kitten and Peso a penguin (DS loves it too) and they work out of an octopus shaped lab under the sea.

Are snowflakes an option? I guess easier to crochet than knit? I loved Wubbly's vision, it was so beautiful.

PMing you, Pistey.

Any idea of time scale yet or am I being premature? And are we contacting Lydia re. wool, or shall I go where I've gone before? I was paying full whack there anyway (Café Knit) so am happy to pay Lydia the full cost - just need to be able to pay online by credit card, not Paypal.

I would love to donate again.

pistey can you pm me please? I'm on my phone for a while as dp sorts out the new pc and it doesn't give me the pm option.

I can either send someone two balls or can put a tenner in the post. I don't mind.

I have been directed over here from the original thread. I am happy to make some squares.

In addition I have just won an ebay auction for ten balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino shade 029 (Lime Green). When it arrives I can post out 4 or 5 balls for 1/10 of what I paid +P&P. Not sure how much P&P will work out but the cost of the wool works out at £2.40 per ball.

Will PM Pistey too.
