Feminism: Sex & gender discussions

Just had my first run in with a woke halfwit on Instagram…

Jeez, talk about banging your head against a wall. All in response to the John Lewis ad with the boy in the dress and make up.

I think some of my arguments may have been a little clunky, but I think I articulated myself reasonably well.

Good for you. I usually get woke blokes on Twitter who don't know what they have let themselves in for. It will never not be fun to trounce a man who thinks the little wimmin is going to just roll over and accept bullshit Grin

Be thankful it wasn’t a Twitter Furry TRA. Fuck me, it’s infuriating. 😂

It was fun, yes! The person in question appears to be an actual woman, but hell bent on insisting that someone’s gender self identify is objective rather than subjective.

What about the kid - gender aside - being a little 💩?

I'm currently in Twitter gaol after a short exchange with a person over the "not all women have cervixes" issue. When I pointed out that by that logic "women" have prostates too and so should be included in the screening program as "not all men have prostates" I was blocked, reported and given a 30 day suspension for "causing distress".

I thought you had to be 13 to be in social media don’t you? Causing distress my backside...

I saw that IG post and was shocked to see how many people there are saying they love the ad. I use Instagram in a work related way so can’t dive in, but well done for sticking your neck out, there’ll be lots people agreeing with you, but like me don’t feel able to speak up.

I haven’t met any real people who think it’s nice or fun.

But then maybe because I deal with grown ups and parents - the general consensus:
‘oh my god, I would kill that child’
‘who is paying for all that/going to clean up the mess’
‘yeah, like an insurance company will pay for that (without lies if ‘we were burgled by kids)’
‘so mean to his sister - I hope she gives him a thwack’
‘crap parenting’ and
‘glitter bomb - they will be finding it for years’

Also quite a few ‘little *’

Objections to this advert are being misinterpreted on social media as 'oh my god, you just don't like the idea of a boy in a dress'.

They can't actually engage in the actual objections (eg. Boy trashing his house and destroying his sisters activity is something joyful to apparently be celebrated, presumably because the boy in question is wearing a dress) , because they know that they won't have a leg to stand on.

Heck, I’ve had to stop myself replying on the IG thread now, I don’t have time and the other poster is totally deluded, so there’s no hope for her.

It is all about luxury beliefs really. Having the money to pay the premiums (which I expect are large).

It is not behaviour open to your average child.

@Melroses that’s true.

It just annoyed me that JL are so bloody woke and trying to shoehorn their credentials into an adult for bloody home insurance 🙄

@newnamenellie "talk about banging your head against a wall"

Slightly off topic:

I used that phrase on Twitter when responding to a TRA, and the next thing I knew my Tweet was removed, my account blocked until I remove that tweet (which I refuse to do), and I get a message saying that if I felt like I was going to self harm, to please seek help, and find support from family and friends.

Bloody idiots.

I wonder if your run in was with my friend who's been reposting screenshots of it all day and telling JL they need to crack down on the homophobia in the comments.

Honestly, I think it has probably backfired on them.

Your only problem is having an Instagram account in the first place.

newnamenellie · 14/10/2021 19:48

Yes, though to be fair, I rarely post anything or interact on there, just like certain accounts for home/fashion ideas 😊

All the criticism I've seen is over the massive sexism displayed in the ad. The destructive disruptive boy being watched but in no way challenged by the woman or girl has caused rather a lot of indignation on Twitter and their subsequent responses on there hasn't made things any better.

It's a shit advertisement on many levels.

I was talking about with a pretty diverse set of people today by chance (I didn't instigate the conversation).

Everyone thought it was awful albeit for a range of different reasons - none of which were gender/trans related.

The most prolific points of view were about it being sexist as a male protagonist runs riot while the females passively sit by, children watching it and thinking it's ok to trash the home and lack of parenting values/snowflake over indulged kids because middle class parent can insure against the damage (but what happens when they visit a friends house?).
