I don't really like having a go at Jess. She does good work and I know how hard it is for MPs to stand up, especially in Labour. But at some point she needs to find a backbone.
I thanked her yesterday on twitter for a fairly innocuous tweet as did many other women. Then she deleted it. It hurts. it feels like I'm being manipulated.
Kathleen Stock apparently felt the same.

Her reason for deleting seems perfectly reasonable to me tbh.

Not to me. She's an MP, does she believe in something or doesn't she? Does she stand by her convictions or run away from the bullies? How do you think Kathleen must have felt?

Tbh I think that's a fair comment about not wanting to be copied in on other people's arguments.

I'm also sure that Jess knows that it doesn't matter if it has been deleted. It WILL be remembered and WILL be used as evidence against her, at least until she makes the ritual apology and vows to "do better"

I know. I do feel like why should she have to stand up when so many others won't. But then if you are going to make a career out of being a straight talking feminist but you won't put your head above the parapet even a little bit then what is the fucking point of you?

Kathleen is quite the bully herself. Why are you holding her out as a victim?

She could have just muted notifications on that thread. There’s obviously more to it.

We know Jess does good work for women and we know there needs to be sensible people on the inside when this all comes crashing down. She can't do that if thrown on the bonfire now.

However, I do wish she'd speak out. We know she knows what a woman is.

If she gets hate and death threats anyway, may as be hung for a sheep as a lamb.

The more who speak out, the braver it makes the rest.

I'm disappointed, but I get it. I don't think she's a bad person.

Kathleen has been advised by the police not to turn up to her place of work, to hire security, and to secure her home. She is a victim.

Examples of Kathleen's ''bullying'' please? (Assuming you actually mean bullying, and not just ''she said some things I disagree with.'')

Kathleen is the one telling the rest of us off for unhelpful behaviour. She's very moderate, calm and polite on this. Others can and do go too far at times, but not KS.

Someone should show her how to mute replies on a post … bit feeble really.

Jess Phillips is not the enemy here. She knows that men are not women and that removing women's spaces is dangerous - that's literally what she campaigns and works for.

If she's deleted a tweet to save being hounded on Twitter and told off by the party so she can get on with her job - well, so be it. I imagine she's choosing her battles.

I'm reliably informed by an LP insider that there is more to this than JP says.

I wish she was gutsy enough to take a lead on this instead of doing the hokey-cokey. Every time she does if another Labour voter starts thinking how reasonable Liz Truss seems.

Jess is an elected MP. I'm willing to bet that hundreds if not more, women have written to her on this subject. I don't think saying she doesn't like being quote tweeted in arguments cuts it really.

Nor does going on to remind us that she does good work around VAWG as she did further down from that first tweet. That doesn't cancel out her inability to speak up on behalf of women in other areas.

I don't think Jess is a fully paid up TRA true believer and I have no doubt she feels intimidated, but Rosie Duffield will have felt that too.

We just can't have MPs who are too cowed by either external or internal pressure to feel unable talk about hot political topics even in the most gentle, wishy washy of terms.

So I'm annoyed with Jess but I'm angry with the Labour leadership who give no support or protection to female MPs who want to talk about women's rights.

Can you tell us a bit more about “more to this” at all please? Obviously you don’t want to out your friend, but the inner machinations of either the party, or Jess herself do interest me.

Agree with others that tweeting and muting is the obvious answer if you don’t want endless arguments in your mentions.

Jess Phillips has carefully created a straight talking, telling it like it is, feminist persona. She's talked about facing down angry violent men at the doors of women's refuges. If she can't be arsed with facing flak over this issue, or risk her precious career then she can't expect people to see her as the person of courage and integrity she wants us to.

Tbh I think that's a fair comment about not wanting to be copied in on other people's arguments.

It's not other peoples arguments, it's a situation that the labour party had huge influence in establishing in the first place.

It's ridiculous to be part of the party that set up GRA and is activity campaign for it to be broadened, while ignoring the rights of women and children, and then labeling any discussion around their decisions as 'rowing'.

I agree. She did the same disingenuous shit about Rosie Duffield. 'Of course I stand with her, I stand with her all the time!' Pretending you don't know what 'standing with' someone is.to avoid answering a straight question? I mean, really?

Once upon a time Jess Philips was the Labour party gobshite. Anyone remember her saying she wouldn't stab JC in the back, she stab him in the front and that was all said with the thugs from bromentum bullying everyone in the LP to support JC.

She has form for "reconsidering" tweets which could be construed as supporting women instead of men's feelings. Her first innocuous tweet on this issue in 2017 taught her what she was and was not permitted to say as LP MP. A few years later she is answering for her "crimes" in a PN interview which could easily have been mistaken for an educational roleplaying video on coercive control, it was cringe inducing watching an elected member of parliament be bullied by a PN "journalist".

Her only useful function is reading the names of murdered women, using her is tactical for KIS, Jess Philips is her useful idiot and isn't fit to shine her shoes. Staying silent when women in her own party are being bullied and our rights are being eroded isn't keeping your powder dry, its absolute moral fucking cowardice.
