I can't link but the DM are reporting that people are upset with Primark for calling it's new pregnancy clothing "the parenthood collection"
Angry
Jeez - how do we stop this ridiculousness?

But surely it's a good idea to spruce up dads' fashion too?

Report
MrsFin · 14/10/2021 13:30

Yes, because Dads need new clothes when women are pregnant.

This is kind of Victorian, isn't it?

Pregnancy - or anything related - too shameful to actually mention.

"Parenthood". Sigh.

And relying on everyone knowing what the euphemisms mean...

NecessaryScene · 14/10/2021 13:33

Although, to be fair, "maternity" is also something of a euphemism itself... Just rather clearer.

Is is actually maternity clothes specifically designed for bumps, or does it have some function relating to being parents?

I'm intrigued to think what this would be. What do parents need from their clothes, particularly? Hmm

Maybe it is just a fashion/image thing. Designer stains?

Haha!

Yep it’s pathetic - maternity is a nice sounding word, ‘parenthood’ makes me think of serious types wearing sludgy coloured anoraks and unflattering dungarees.

Well I don't know, hence asking... but in my case it'd involve an elasticated waistband. Maybe a big slogan hoody saying "just leave me alone for 5 poxy minutes! "

And plenty of pockets

You beat me to it! Grin Also stainproof and eminently washable. And non-iron, of course...

There is a market for parenthood clothing along these lines.

"Don't talk to me unless there is fire or blood"

Well if they're calling maternity clothes "parenthood" clothes, I'm definitely not going there. Shame, I could do with quite a few maternity clothes right now! I reject anybody who thinks words like "mother" and "maternity" are shameful or taboo.

I'm hoping for clothes made from plasticy material that you can scrub vomit and other bodily fluids from quite quickly.

Primark have been at it for ages - you only have to look at their store fronts every time Pride comes around and the Pride range of clothes

When i go to Brum i see loads of woke youngsters with the Primark rainbow tote bags

Anyone's DP up for complaining that the 'parenthood collection' doesn't seem have anything in his size?

.of course they will because women can't have anything to ourselves.

I'm sure I can convince my 6 foot 4 and 19 St friend to put a complaint in. He can't buy clothes from primark anyway as nothing fits him

Surely if you are pregnant but don't identify as a woman, you probably don't want women's maternity clothes? Do they actually have men's clothes that incorporate room for a bump in the range? Or is this just lip service?

Report
HerRoyalWitchyness · 14/10/2021 14:07

chesirecat99 surely if you don't identify as a woman, being pregnant, something only women can do, is the last thing you would want to be.

What really irritates me is that I went into a branch of Primark not so long ago looking for maternity clothes. They didn't sell any in store.

M&S, New Look and Next all told me that they only sell maternity clothes online now, not in store. Even though I wanted maternity leggings that day and didn't want to order them online!

So it annoys me when companies like Primark purport to be oh-so inclusive and woke-wash their products by renaming the maternity range 'parenthood clothes' or whatever, but then when a pregnant woman actually needs to buy a fairly basic wardrobe staple from their store, they don't cater for her at all. Funnily enough, my husband did not have any issues buying clothes that day, because impending parenthood has not had the same effect on his body as it has mine.

Bought my leggings online from a non-high-street retailer in the end. Plan to buy my baby's clothes elsewhere as well.

They did use the word maternity in the Instagram post announcing the range, I don't get the outrage?

Report
EdgeOfACoin · 14/10/2021 14:26

I suppose the range could include things like babywearing coats for men...?
