Fancy a Bailey's coffee, a stiff whisky, some elderflower presse, a nice cup of tea? Come on in.
I've got twiglets.

Just in time, Flib. I’m in bed, but that glass of Bailey’s will help me drift off to sleep. I’ll clink glasses first. Cheerzzzzz

You’ve got twiglets? Heaven.

Twiglets are awful. Do I have to leave, or can I bring some posh crisps?

I bring some home made avacado dip if that convinces anyone?

FlibbertyGiblets Thu 14-Oct-21 10:46:21

Bring whatever you have!

I could never do Twiglets, always makes me think of Mr Bean, cutting branches off the tree, and dipping them in Marmite before serving to his guests.

Me too - but I love vegemite and probably would happily suck it off twigs.

Hi all, long time lurker. Something strange happened yesterday, I have thought about it several times since. I guess it is about unconscious bias? Not sure, but it was odd. I’d like to talk it through ….

I was staying in a hotel for work, went down for breakfast. Stated my room number, saw it on the breakfast list being checked by the (male) on the door. I am Dr. SmallGreenStripes, and since the room had been booked by my organisation, that was what was on the name list. I don’t usually use my Title for things like that.

He greeted me, then I told him my name and he looked down the list. As he looked, he said “let me check for your name, Miss SmallGreen Stripes”. Then he said Aha! Here it is! But it is down as Mr SmallGreenStripes. Never mind, follow me.

It didn’t say Mr. On the list. It said Dr. But I THINK he read it as Mr.

I have been wondering whether this is just a case of poor eyesight or a bias assuming a Dr is male? It’s happened often in meetings too when I arrive and have been assumed male over email (I have a unisex first name).

Just been musing about it in all the general crap about being female at the moment…..

Thanks for listening

I think we can all be prone to unconcious bias as we have grown up in a world with biased media, images, children's books, etc... but yes is is shit, especially when personal and sometimes it is deliberate bias which is even shittier. flowers Dr you've bloody earned that title smallgreenstripes..

God it's busy eh? I can barely keep up. It's a FT job.

Ok on the caffeine and nicotine, having given up years ago. I know I know but Christ I need something.

Thank you, thanks to these boards I have been really noticing more and more things like this. Not against me necessarily, but in general.

Feels like a shitty time to be a young woman in particular. I am an old woman; a proud dinosaur, and trying and hoping to raise decent sons. These boards are my safe space, but I have to take breaks as it makes me so angry!

I'm having myself a cup of PG tips with a dark chocolate non-pareil and quietly fuming about Loudon County, Virginia, where a girl was anally raped by a boy in a skirt in a bathroom, and the only person arrested was her father for complaining about it in a public meeting.

flowers @OhHolyJesus Don't let them get to you that much Jesus. Said as a fellow traveller who quit the habit too years ago, and completely understand the pull. Illegitimi non carborundum
