So LOJ has been tweeting a letter from labours shadow minister for women and equality. In the letter she approves of the UCUSussex stance on Kathleen stock plus takes a swipe at the LGB Alliance. Unbelievable

I think it’s been suggested that she should be sued for libel over her unfounded accusations against LGBA.
She had the brass neck to admit that she hadn’t read any of Dr Stock’s writings, but still insulted and criticised her for things she had never said.
Is she a secret Tory agent? She’s doing a great job at losing the women’s vote for Labour.

Labour have been scraping under the barrel for (many of) its ‘women’ for a while now. Honestly, I don’t know where they get them from.

Wow. She really has picked a side hasn't she?

I really think that letter sails close to being libel. I hope professor stock and the LGB Alliance are talking to their lawyers. And thank you to LOJ for making sure lots of people get to see it and see exactly what Labour think

Where's he got a copy of that letter from? I have seen it on line but the constituent's address was blanked out.
It's a deeply shocking letter mainly because it exposes ignorance and arrogance.
She is young but as a pharmacist I'd not have expected the puberty blockers advocacy.

Abysmal. She's only 27. No idea how to behave.

She says that she is happy to continue the conversation, so presumably would welcome challenge to the points she makes?

Fuck Labour. I’m politically homeless now - completely.

‘Only 27’? Dear god by that age I was married, had a mortgage, 2 degrees and managed a team of professionals. I wasn’t desperately trying to be ‘down with the kids’ and spouting utter nonsense.

I’m (almost) embarrassed for her. Where’s your dignity, woman??

I think this would be a nice high profile libel action for LGBA. And in Christian Jessen's libel didn't the fact that it had been tweeted by someone with lots of followers make it worse?

PickAChew · 13/10/2021 23:11

Considering the source, it's perfectly believable, unfortunately.

So is opposing charitable status of any group you don't agree with a thing now? I hope Labour are just as active in opposing the charitable status of private schools.

May be we should just create a women’s party? Stand one candidate in each constituency. People
may prefer to vote for them than spoil their vote. May make the other parties take note.

I do hope LGBA are at this moment speaking to her and pointing out that if she doesn’t apologies and retract her comments, she will be hearing from their lawyers.

LGBA have (previously) said that they are not interested in pursuing libel claims, because it distracts time and resources from the work that they want to do.

Very very brave stand there. Her majority over the Conservatives in 2019 was 208.

I do understand that, but surely they can’t allow MPs to lie about them. A solicitors letter usually do the trick and we could always do some digging if needs be.

Me too. It's quite frightening. I can't vote for any political party, because they are all pretending not to know what a woman is or why her sex matters, so the Tories will keep getting in by default. Again. And again.

WHY are they doing this?

There’s another couple of years until the next election. I’m hoping by then Labour will have realised they cannot win the next election unless they stop telling women off for pointing out what a woman is.

Problem is now I can't trust them even if they change the hymn sheet. They've shown they're willing to throw women under the bus. I can't see the younger ones actually changing.
It will take them having a clear change of position for at least another parliament before I'll vote for them again.

A couple of years is a bit optimistic. They have an awful long way to go.

Report
Chrysanthemum5 · 14/10/2021 00:47

Right now I can't see Labour getting back in to power any time soon. And it shocks me that they are so ineffectual- coming up against the tories and the mess they are making Labour should be streets ahead

How do you enter politics and get to think that people who disagree with you shouldn't be allowed to organise and express their views? Does she think the people sitting opposite her on the green benches were beamed in from Mars or something?

Though more green shoots at the Guardian - Richard Adams on the education desk wrote that up in another reasonably balanced article

Yes.

There have to be hundreds of charities out there that each of us disagrees with on some level. Or which we think aren't very important.
