Lisa Townsend Surrey PCC- communication of your view is important

A great interview on The Mess We're In this evening.

Lots of interesting points made. Even if The Mess We're In is not aligned to your own views, and you don't usually watch, I thought it would be useful to highlight a specific point Lisa made.

She has received a massive amount of communication since speaking out on this issue.

In this interview at 39:18 she talks about the requirement for her to submit the communications she gets (not including Twitter or personal email feedback, but letters, emails to her formal role, flowers etc) on this subject.

And that she is required to submit a full analysis for the Police and Crime Panel who monitor her work (who have received complaints about her).

Her office was required to submit the responses she had had, and the analysis was 10% against what she said, 90% in favour.

If you're ever doubting sending a card in support is futile - this should give you encouragement that it's not for nothing!

Gah - doubting sending a card in support is futile .... thinking a card in support is futile

Send a message. It makes a difference!

Thanks pombear do all PCCs have to submit this sort of analysis?

Ha 90%, that blows all the bollocks about the general public being totally on the TRA side somewhat out of the water.

No debate was done for a reason they knew as soon as the general voting public caught wind of exactly what the TRAs were doing it would not go in their favour.

More and more the general public are waking up to this insidious agenda and the attempts at emotional blackmail and they see straight through it.

Some notable TRAs have belatedly realised this and are now back tracking and trying to appear more reasonable - too late their words and actions are writ large for everyone to see.

We're required to submit any 'complaints' made against us to our local police and crime panel within 5 working days. To give context, we analysed all the correspondence sent to the office and whether it was supportive or not and that's how we arrived at the figure. In reality, if we'd included all of the correspondence I've received on Twitter and to my political email, it would be an even higher proportion who are supportive. Lisa

That's really good to hear. And thank you for all you are doing on this issue Lisa. It's vet much appreciated.

Thankyou Lisa for all you are doing. I think the last week has shown us not only how amazingly brave women like you and Kathleen are when you stand up and speak out but also how much support there is for you.

What you have said today means that those of us who aren’t standing in the Twitter and SM firing line now know we can make a tangible difference by writing, texting and making our support visible, and that our letters and texts do have a wider audience and impact.

Thank you Lisa for all you are doing, you have many women behind you, supporting from the sidelines.

Thanks for speaking up for women and girls Lisa. You mentioned on the Mess We're in podcast, that only messages received to your official PCC email were counted, could you confirm what that is please?

Thank you - yes, it's [email protected]

Please do share with your friends Wink

And thanks to everyone for all the cards, letters and flowers - everyone who comes into my office sees them (including the chief constable!) so every one of them has made a difference

Very pleased that I took the time to send a message of support. It is encouraging to hear that these are recognised. Thank you again.

Thank you so much Lisa for speaking up! I very nearly brought some flowers from my garden in suffragette colours round to your office at the time, but then I wasn’t sure you would get them, and thought a card would be better. It’s good to know you do get them, so next time I am passing I will do so!

Thank you Lisa, you are an inspiration, thank you for standing up for women rights.

I only wish other PCCs were following in your footsteps. Namely A&S

@MrMrsJones

Just seen something that suggests that Avon and Somerset Police are not renewing their membership with Stonewall.

Not sure if that's useful of relevant but thought I'd share. Perhaps, if it's your area, it might be worth writing to your PCC and Chief Constable asking them to support Lisa T or simply stating their commitment to protecting the rights and spaces of women and girls?

Update:

John McManus Television🎙Satellite antenna
@JohnMcM1

  1. NEW: The Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey,
    @LisaTownsend
    has been cleared by her local Police and Crime Panel of any breach of her public conduct, after complaints were made against her when she said that Surrey Police should stop paying money to
    @stonewalluk
    .
  2. The comments, alongside others where Townsend raised concerns about what she said were the implications of male-bodied people being able to self-identify as women, sparked 40 complaints to the Police and Crime panel, which has some powers to hold her to account.

  3. Meeting today, the Panel told
    @LisaTownsend
    that it found her comments did not constitute a breach of her Code of Conduct, and no further action was needed.
