This sounds interesting.

A special ‘Nolan Investigates’ podcast drops tomorrow afternoon on @BBCSounds. An 18 month investigation into the influence of a lobby group on public bodies throughout the UK. More details in the morning

It seems to be about Stonewall.

Anyone know more about it?

There is some chatter about it on Twitter.

twitter.com/janeclarejones/status/1448205588253618176?s=21

(Tweet from JCJ says:

Okay, at last, here it is.

The BBC Ulster documentary on the influence of Stonewall on public life in the UK.

Many GC women have been interviewed for this.

Let's take the lid off this thing shall we?

Was this what Baroness Nicholson referred to at the Conservative Conference meeting? I’m sure she mentioned something about a report on Stonewall coming out in October but I haven’t seen anything else about it.

Could be. I hope it will translate to more than a podcast if that is the case.

Hopefully it will get good press coverage. Am trying not to get too excited though (but it’s hard not to - it would surely be easy to produce a damning report about Stonewall with, er, facts!)

I'm glad it's been investigated - bit sad that it's a podcast rather than more mainstream media, but hopefully it will get picked up.

I did a post here about what must be this a few weeks ago: Nolan said he was doing something around this topic, but the context in which he said it didn't make me optimistic about the line he's going to take (but we'll see). He was claiming to Edwina Currie, who was saying otherwise, that there was 'no evidence' that self-ID would open the door to predatory behaviour in women's single sex spaces.

I am hoping that at least a balanced view will be presented. Now... I am not so sure.

I think he has a tendency when interviewing to play devil's advocate to draw more out of people. Hoping that's all it is.

Is this the precursor to the government enquiry Baroness Awesome is aiming for?

Apart,, of course, from all the evidence of predatory behaviour in women's single sex spaces.....

The clearest example I know of that "no evidence" is untrue is women's prisons in Canada. Which is why so many people there are engaged in suppressing the news of what's going on.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/10/2021 13:07

And, Barbie Kardashian in Ireland - she is a pretty striking example of "no evidence".

Unless, has "no evidence" changed meaning in common usage? I can't keep up with language shifts. For instance, I still think I'm a woman, can't quite get used to describing myself as a "body with a vagina". Silly me.

On the BBC?

Report

The problem with citing the Barbie Kardashian case is it can be presented as the system "working". Since BK was put in a women's prison no assaults have been carried out, thus "proving" that a "no harm" arrangment can work. In reality it's more a case of "no harm until there's harm" and from what we know of BK, the harm could be horrendous.

Once it becomes a standard measure like in Canada, harm is happening all of the time and the only way to justify the measure is to suppress what's going on. But evidence is emerging despite this.

Are you sure? How would we know if they had? Authorities are in full cover-up mode here.

Do we have any women on the inside providing information where BK is?

Report
nauticant · 13/10/2021 13:26

The context here is countering "no evidence". As I said, supporters of this measure suppress information about harm being carried out. So if you get into a discussion about BK, the supporter can say there's no evidence of BK carrying out an assault and you don't have any counter evidence to present.

It looks like there's an episode of Nolan Live tonight (broadcast I NI then on iplayer), but I don't suppose thats it. There isn't anything called Nolan investigates on BBC sounds yet. Maybe it's a one off rather than part of a series. I thought from the timing of the tweet that it wld appear this afternoon, but nothing yet.

I'd like to know what number unlock that individual is on - in as the number of prison officers who must be present and what they are expected to wear before that door is unlocked. This would be standard for a highly dangerous and violent male prisoner.

It's also evidently true as you say here that any incidents are being and will continue to be frantically hushed up and we have no idea how many will happen before one escapes into the public domain. My trust in this to be fair and equal in concern for females is now zero. My willingness to tolerate this now is equally zero.

And then there's the facts -

this person offends exclusively against females, they are the intentional target

this person is extremely dangerous and has successfully caused appalling injuries to multiple victims

the risk of this person being in the vicinity of victims is about a stupid as waving a naked flame around in a firework factory. When inevitably it goes wrong, the consequences for that victim will be life changing and may even be life ending.

WTF if that a risk anyone is willing to take with females so a male person who is a very serious offender can be provided with access to them as they wish? Captive, non consenting females.

“ The Nolan team based in Belfast are a group of journalists well used to asking awkward questions. This investigative podcast questions the BBC over its close relationship with the political lobby group Stonewall.”

Sounds delicious
