AIBU to actually be starting to like the term cis?

Hopefully this is allowed. Not bashing anyone.

I hated the term cis however this morning it hit me that we may be better embracing it if we can't eradicate it.

We have TWAW etc. But in the next however many years, we may find it easier, for example you're on a dating site "cis woman seeking cis man" therefore you will (hopefully) link with genetically male partners. Rather than "seeking a man" and you may possibly end up with a trans man. Again, no judgement or bashing, however I only ever wanted to be with someone who was genetically male, it's just my preference and I should be able to state this in a simple way.

So you would be able to request a man (if happy with cis or trans man) or woman, a cis man/woman and the subsections of lesbian or gay.

Prepared to be told IABU and sure that someone will likely be able to point out why this is bad. I'm not wanting this to be a bashing thread. I'm just starting to think the term may become useful in the not-too-distant future.

Also prepared this may end up deleted.

YABU.

Women are women

Transwomen are transwomen.

YABU. I am a woman. End of.

I don't see it like that (although I can see where you ca coming from) but as far as I am concerned, I'm just a woman.

I'm more than happy to treat a person as whatever gender they wish to present to the world but I'm not a fan of inventing new ways to describe standard biology.

I am not cis. I am not the opposite of a transwoman. I am a woman. I am not a subset of women.

No bashing from me but I’m not a cis woman. I’m a woman. Adult human female, owner of two X chromosomes, WOMAN.

If I’m dating someone I would expect them to be upfront about being trans. No honesty = no trust = no relationship, no matter how much they want to identify.

One problem for gay people is that we might not see ourselves as 'cis' even if heterosexuals who do believe they conform to gender norms might choose to use the term.

If I said 'looking for a cis woman' I would be worried i might be matched with a woman who liked dressing like Grayson Perry on a girly day, when that isn't what I'm looking for.

If you like it then fill your boots. It's not for me and it's not for the vast majority of people either. The only people who really use it are trans people and a handful of virtue signallers.

Yabu and I say that as someone who thinks trans people really do come in for a lot of unnecessary bashing!

It's an insult. It's not just a neutral term. The genuinely neutral term is "woman".

You’d like to be with someone who is “genetically male” 🤣🤣 . Do you require all your partners to get their karyotypes tested?

Personally I find it a useful shorthand for someone who identifies with the sex they were born as.

I've no issues with being called a cis woman - any more than I have with being called a white woman, straight woman, Liverpudlian woman, able bodied woman.

It's not shorter than "woman" though. Or man.

The word woman doesn't need a qualifier.

YANBU but I don't think trans women are changing their whole identity to attack me like some cis women seem to, so 🤷‍♀️

As stated, I also hated it. I just feel we may get to a point where if you're introduced to a woman or man, how do you know if they're trans, unless they tell you.

Not that it matters in any way except dating probably. I also am just "a woman" but I feel in some contexts we may be better off adopting it.

The word woman has worked very well for a very long time to indicate that the person concerned is a woman.

I don't think we need add to it to indicate to anyone that we are women and not people pretending to be women.

If anything needs definition it should be the trans women who need to use a label to identify themselves as 'trans women' as they are not biologically women.

Biological women are women. It's the only word required to indicate that fact.

I 100% agree with this but with TWAW we don't seem to be getting this clarification in general.

YANBU. I'm a cis woman. I have friends who are women but are biologically male. I have friends who are biologically female and identify as women. They're both women.

Nobody HAS to use cis if they don't feel it represents them, but railing against a useful term that nobody is forcing you at gunpoint to use is a bit silly tbh. You'd think those who oppose the idea that trans women are women would be pleased to have a term that sets them apart as being biologically female women.

We already have a word for that it’s woman (or man) the fact that men call themselves women and women call themselves men doesn’t change the facts.

What about the examples a pp just gave you : “white woman”, “able bodied woman” , “straight woman” etc. Or do you think these “qualifiers” are not required either?
