The judgment of the Tavistock's appeal of the case will be given at 2pm.

Brave Keira. You have done so much to protect children from ideologically driven healthcare around the world. Your integrity and courage is inspiring and rare in this ridiculous day and age. 💚🤍💜

Good luck Keira.

Her strength of character astounds me. I hope common sense and justice prevail tomorrow and she wins.

i can't believe the tavistock appealed it

they just can't rest until they can experiment on children carte blanche, can they?

Even if the appeal succeeds, people are watching the Tavi now.

The issue of medicating gay kids straight is known. The total lack of evidence for the treatments. The treatment of safeguarding and whistleblowers.

Brava, Kiera. Whatever happens, you've succeeded. Huge and heartfelt admiration to you.

Let's hope this dreadful decision of Keira is reversed and Gillick competency restored. She was 18+ when she was given HRT and took her hormone decisions. Take some personal accountability. Desistence is extremely low according to NHS/GIC stats. Hopefully this wrong with be righted!

What an extraordinarily long and difficult process this has been for kiera. The Tavistock have really put the boot in by appealing. Surely sense will prevail.

Indeed! Let us hope so!

This case had also highlighted the lack of stats and records held by GiDS. You’d hope that would have changed and they can now keep track of their patients outcomes.

They've got a shit load of heat on them.

They've been rated inadequate, they've just been successfully sued by their own safeguarding lead, there's an independent review which will be looking into the efficacy of the ''treatment'', their own study was 😬 and they'll have to start actually bothering to keep proper records now (shame they had to be dragged to court for that to happen, eh?)

If they do win (I think they will) Keira will have forced change anyway, they can't carry on as they have been, with nonsense ideology trumping evidence-based practice.

You have more faith in Tavis record keeping than I do, we all know from this case that their record keeping is appalling and in some cases didn't exist. The tavi is an absolute mess, and will cost the NHS a fortune in the future

Take some personal accountability.

She wasn't mentally well enough to be making a life changing decision like that, which they would have realised had they bothered doing their jobs properly.

I've revisited the Cass Review letter to NHS in May - it highlights the following:

In addition, many children and young people have complex needs, but once they are identified as having gender dysphoria, other important healthcare issues which would normally be managed by local services can sometimes be overlooked.

Data: The lack of systematic data collection is a significant issue.

Lack of an explicit assessment framework – currently expertise in assessment of children and young people presenting to GIDS is held in a small body of clinicians and their assessment processes have not been made explicit. The CQC report drew attention to the lack of structured assessment in the GIDS notes,

None of these significant issues go away regardless of the result of the appeal tomorrow

I think they will, too. Not because they're right, but because the law didn't envisage having to deal with this kind of wrong, as with the JR on prisons.

But it shows where the law needs to change.

Hope the appeal fails but in any case children must not be able to get “treatments” that will harm them in the longer term...

Absolutely and a lot of the credit has to go to keira, her case alongside sonias has shone significant light on the Tavistock.

Keira you’re an inspiration in this unbelievable shitshow of a lack of professionalism, evidence -based medicine and normal safeguarding. Politics centring men’s sexual rights have allowed a complete misrepresentation of the implications of Gillick and the law around consent for children to become normalised in these services.
Gender-non-conforming children and young people, however they identify, are being horrendously let down by a system that ignores or underserves their need for better emotional and mental health support.

Thank you for bringing your case whatever the outcome tomorrow. You have the moral victory and right on your side. Thank you for your courage and for always speaking up. Flowers
