Ribboning help please

Hi, I am armed and dangerous with the literal violence of purple, white and green ribbons. My plan is to attach meaningful quotes or phrases on laminated pieces of paper but I'm not sure what to write for the best impact and communication of Women’s rights. Please could you give me some ideas other than the dictionary definition of woman. Ideal places to put them too. Public loos? Park bench? Sea wall railings? End of the pier might be a good one. On the train somewhere?
My stickers are so far still where I've left them and we are on a day trip to a different area tomorrow so I'm going to make the most of it with some activism.

I've been going with "Women's rights are not a hate crime", mostly, with some variation. Would love to ask the Staniland question but I don't want to put parents in an awkward position if their kids spot a label and ask what it means... Grin

Good luck!

What's the Staniland question?

"Do you believe that male-sexed people should have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls?"

I vary what I write but always put #WomenWontWheesht #sexmatters (sometimes a QR code for the FWS site.)

I'm hoping people will be curious enough to look it up - maybe I have too much faith Grin

I’m going to say please don’t laminate if you are hanging them near sea/rivers as they will end up as plastic waste. Those parcel labels and a sharpie should be good. Sharpie also good to write on pebbles on the beach Wink

The brown luggage labels always look so nice with the ribbons.

I'd go for things that will make people think.

Define transwoman (lots of people think it means a woman who is trans)

Point out that a TW is not necessarily a transexual

Suggest useful names / terms to Google / hashtags for twitter.

TW in prisons

TW in sports

Be clear and factual so that people can easily fact check what you are saying. You want to pique peoples interest not just signal to those already in the know

I've seen Separate Sport by #SexNotGender on twitter.

Also, Keep Prisons Single Sex, with the address of the website.

Can you post a picture when you've tied some? I get what people are saying about plastic waste, but surely one downpour will ruin the messages.

I would also like to tie some ribbons.

Can someone explain what wheest means?!

Anotheruser02 · 16/07/2021 15:42

I think it means being silenced or shut up.

I have no idea either and I've tried to look it up as well.

Think this is the main problem with some of these hashtags, they just don't mean anything to a lot of people.

Wheesht is a Scottish colloquialism for be quiet or shush

Report
BlankTimes · 16/07/2021 16:18

"Haud yer wheesht!"

Is a well known Scottish phrase for be quiet, hold your tongue, shut up etc. so Women Won't Wheesht is saying women will not be silenced.

I've just ribboned. No message.

I hope another GC woman will see them and draw some strength from the fact she's not alone, or maybe someone will Google suffragette ribbons to see what it's all about.

I'll be honest, I shit myself everytime I do it that I'll be chased by a blue haired youth, but I can't do nothing.

Maybe something about the percentage of transwomen who retain their penises.

Yeah a fact. People are lazy, they won't always look things up.
I was thinking something including the stats of sexual offender rates in the prison population of men compared with TW that is something that really shocked me and sobered me to the devastation unfolding. That this class of men are so much more likely to be a sexual abuser than the actual men who of course would never be locked up with a vulnerable traumatised group of women.

Grin I'm too busy worrying about my smaller kids seeing what I'm doing - the teen knows (& helps Grin) but the wee ones will just want to tie ribbons/stick random stickers everywhere Hmm

Surprisingly mine (fine-nib black ink on parcel tags) have been up for weeks in the rain and have survived intact.
