Sainsbury don't give a stuff about women...

... or at least, they don't give stuff about those who want to use the loo as a single sex space.

"Last night, Sainsbury's said: 'We're committed to being a truly inclusive retailer where every single one of our colleagues is treated fairly and with respect.'"

  • unless of course that colleague is a woman who wants a single sex loo or changing room in which case there is absolutely no provision for her none at all.

Are they just inflicting this on their own staff team? Or am I as a customer expected to use gender neutral loos too?

She wrote: 'Effectively, Sainsbury's are now inviting male-bodied people to use the existing female changing areas and toilets. As far as I am aware, this has been implemented without consultation with female staff.'

The following day, Sainsbury's chief financial officer Kevin O'Byrne, who is also responsible for LGBT+ issues, wrote to staff saying he was aware of 'several posts that our colleagues might be concerned about' and he reminded employees that transgender people were protected under the Equality Act 2010.

He added: 'Whilst we don't expect everyone to understand the journey trans people go on, we do expect our colleagues to show respect, kindness and understanding to each other.'

I think someone needs to remind Kev that transgender people aren't the ONLY people protected under the Equality Act 2010 Hmm

Sick of this ''just be kind'' bullshit. Where's the kindness and understanding for your female staff?

Time for the women suffering because of this to start taking legal action, as the judge in Ann Sinnott's case suggested.

Sainsbury's are well and truly down this route and I guess have not yet consulted with their lawyers. If they are at the point of re-considering their involvement, it will be like trying to turn a super-tanker.

I will be interested to see SW's accounts come September and I'm still very interested to know what's happening with their list of Diversity Champions and how accurate it is.

No they don't disgusted but nice to see you again 👋 and it is now fully accepted that the views held on this board are not transphobic, in fact you may be in breach of the EA for harassing us Grin

The quotes are straight out of the GC handbook on tranphobia. Lol

Women being uncomfortable at being forced to share toilets with males is not transphobia. ''Lol''.

I thought that those with similar view s to disgusted were supposed to feel happier on another board....

You’ll probably have to wait until December, as SW’s accounting period has been extended.

I love it when people or businesses try to justify it as treating everyone equally and yet as a born woman.. I don't feel I'm being treated equally, I feel a man who wants to be a woman has more rights than me.

Oh fuck, am I going going to have to boycott them too?

Report
Datun · 27/06/2021 12:33

Interestingly, just a few short months ago, the only people saying they would boycott Sainsbury's would be people on this board, and feminists on Twitter.

Now, people making comments under that article universally agree.

I shall write to them, directly to the CEO - and make the point I'll be writing to the Baroness too.

I'm just sorting out my viper's quill.

I've boycotted Sainsbury for over a year. Tesco too one they donated to mermaids
Sainsbury was my preferred supermarket. Over £100 a week plus petrol, clothes and credit card. I keep meaning to write and tell them why, I need to crack on with it. They keep sending vouchers to try and tempt me
Asda I avoid since I saw a staff member with an 'ask me my pronouns' badge. FFS j just want to shop
Aldi and Morrisons if I want a delivery

Bugger.

Happily, I have no brand loyalty and there are plenty other supermarkets to choose from.

I prefer my rights to single sex spaces to nectar points.

Trouble is, the only person in Sainsbury's top management who is going to look at those comments and the article is probably their Diversity (the Kool-aid's on the third shelf) Chief Kevin O'Bryne (he's finance too)

Why would you need to ask a Sainsbury staff member their pronouns? If you're talking to them, it's the second person pronouns you need - you, your, yours. If you need to talk about them, I'd just say, "Your colleague", as in, "Excuse me, your colleague in the fruit and veg section said I'd find dried pears in this aisle but I don't see any."

Come to think of it, I can't find dried pears anywhere lately, not even in Waitrose...

NewlyGranny · 27/06/2021 13:09

And am I right to think it's the most vulnerable who will be most impacted by the loss of privacy in the toilets? I'm thinking the very elderly, the pregnant and those with small children, all of whom can be caught short and not be able to hold in during a supermarket visit.

Have they asked their actual customers or just caved to pressure?

Maybe the way to go with these companies is directly to the Shareholders' Boards.

I am so sick of my local Sainsbury's. Their Pride "Month" goes on and on and on. In 2019 it lasted about three sodding months. Everytime I see the rainbow scan guns nowadays, I just think "misogyny" and "Stonewall". I only go in there now if there is no other choice. They think they are being "inclusive", but it is actually a hostile statement against the rights of women and girls

What on earth would you use dried pears for, Granny?

No it's actually not. It's inclusive.

Your point of view is just out of place with the majority of the population and other women.

Feel free to boycott them, but guess what, other companies such as Aldi and Morrisons are also progressive, and not regressive.
