Why is talk about the Gender Pay Gap in the other section? Surely gender in the title is a giveaway and it should be in ‘Sex and gender’.

This is going to go on and on and on.... 😁

This is exactly why there should only be one section. The mods are going to be very busy if the titles aren't explicit if they can't get the explicit titles right!

And actually I think the Gender Pay Gap should actually be called the Sex Pay Gap. But if I went and posted that opinion, the thread might end up being moved and, y'know, I don't want to be naughty.

IT's all such a bloody waste of our time.

Hopefully @MNHQ will be able to help answer this and other queries asked today, soon. They’ve just said that tech queries are being answered quicker as they’re easier but these ones need more discussion so take a while longer. And I guess they have a lot to get through today. Funny that. 😬

I've seen a chart somewhere that pay aligns with gender (whether cis or trans). Can't find the chart, but this says the same (I can highly recommend Ben Barres' "The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist")

@BlueBrush

Of course it should be called the sex pay gap. Unfortunately lots of people were conned in to thinking gender was a polite word for sex.

The reality was it was an insidious and deliberate campaign to devalue the binary reality.

Research from Switzerland (IIRC) showed that pay aligns with sex, and that both sexes of post-op transsexuals (the only group so far robustly researched for impact of transitioning on pay) experience a reduction in pay when they first transition. The reduction was more pronounced for male transsexuals, but that was because they started from a higher average level. Once fully post-op, pay recovered for both sexes, but the pay of male transsexuals never aligned with that of female employees and that of female transsexuals never aligned with that of male employees.

In the direct comparison between male and female transsexuals, the one interesting data point was that the gap between them was smaller than the gap between average male and female pay.

Nice bit of lesbophobia in that blog. Not sure where your cis / trans comparison leaves all the women who reject ‘cis’ as an offensive imposition of gender identity and say that we don’t have a gender - just a sex.
