Oh dear, they are about 2 years out of date with that one as womxn is now transphobic. I think now you're not supposed to mention us at all.

Is 'womxn' still transphobic? I can't keep up with Pink News editing all their old news stories back and forth.

I honestly always thought that "womxn" was a typing mistake and would view a brand as unprofessional for not proofreading their advertising, had no idea it was actually intentional and a transgender thing. Does someone who's transgender even have a need for liners? I genuinely can't imagine why

I wonder if Yoni thinks that womxn is a term that transmen and non-binary menstruators prefer to women?

I was going to write non-binary women and then I realised that the particular people in question would probably prefer to be referred to as non-binary menstruators. It is certainly intellectually stimulating trying to take account of the terminology for all the individuals who believe they have a gender identity.

It is tricky though, I keep finding I need one word for the type of human with large gametes and the anatomy that is ordinarily capable of gestating, birthing and suckling live young depending on the stage of the life cycle of the human being.

Really?
It's for when they menstruate. Identifying as male or NB doesn't stop that Hmm

Apparently the people who menstruate who do not identify as women refer to their periods as 'shark week'

Brands are really missing a trick here. They should do special branded shark week boxes with scary sharks on them so women and other people who menstruate could choose between those or the standard pretty pink flower boxes.

What do you think transgender means? Genuine question.

"Person who menstruates"GrinGrin doesn't work either. I'm a woman, I'm 69 and I don't menstruate.

I'd buy shark week brand, if I bought disposables any more.

I always thought it was a feminist thing rather than a trans thing? Removing the word 'men' from women?

Not sure about that, I've been hearing people talk about shark week since I was a teen. It's just like saying Aunt Flo, time of the month, on the rag, the painters are in etc.

Definitely a branding opportunity there though Grin And if they tied it into funding ocean causes it'd probably do very well.

Yoni jumped the shark (as it were Grin) a while ago.

I’ve been using Flo pads: they seem to have resisted the faux-“inclusion” language so far. Hoping that they don’t give in! Now that Modibodi have also been taken over I don’t want to have to make my own reusables out of rags or something 🤦‍♀️

Oh FFS just looked up Flo and since I last looked at their website they’ve added a bit about “inclusive” language, including something rubbish about how their use of “women” includes trans women as well as “AFAB” women. Why TF would you need to pander to trans women when you’re selling a period product?

Bye bye my last box of Flo, I won’t be buying them any more either. I guess the rags are looming in my future…. Sad

Looked up 'womyn' as that was one usage in the 70s onwards:

Womyn is one of several alternative political spellings of the English word women, used by some feminists.[1] There are other spellings, including womban (a reference to the womb or uterus) or womon (singular), and wombyn or wimmin (plural). Some writers who use such alternative spellings, avoiding the suffix "-man" or "-men", see them as an expression of female independence and a repudiation of traditions that define women by reference to a male norm.[2] Recently, the term womxn has been used by intersectional feminists to indicate the same ideas while foregrounding or more explicitly including transgender women and women of color.[3][4]

Historically, "womyn" and other spelling variants were associated with regional dialects (e.g. Scots) and eye dialect (e.g. African American Vernacular English).

Old English

Old English had a system of grammatical gender, whereby every noun was treated as either masculine, feminine or neuter, similar to modern German. In Old English sources, the word man was grammatically masculine but gender-neutral in meaning. One of its meanings was similar to the modern English usage of "one" as a gender-neutral indefinite pronoun (compare with mankind (man + kind), which means the human race, and German man, which has retained the indefinite pronoun meaning to the modern day).[5] The words wer and wyf were used, when necessary, to specify a man or woman, respectively. Combining them into wer-man or wyf-man expressed the concept of "any man" or "any woman".[6][7] Some feminist writers have suggested that this more symmetrical usage reflected more egalitarian notions of gender at the time.[2]

Interesting!

totm are organic, and their website still refers to women and girls. I find their panty liners very comfortable and they don't irritate my undercarriage

Natracare are totally plastic free across the whole range and organic. The pads are indeed very soft and breathable - the superplus overnight ones are like straddling a cloud. Grin

They don't really use the word "women" on their website (it appears only a couple of times), but instead use vagina and vulva.

Who runs these companies? I wonder why they can't just sell their products without making a political statement. It's obvious there's no or very few women on their board of directors if the makers of sanitary products don't want to mention women in their advertising. So for all this bleating about equality they don't actually practice what they preach.

Surfing the crimson tide? This euphemism was popular at my secondary school.
