I think there'll be plenty of tits in attendance @WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo

I hope their event goes well and they have fun but Christ on a bike, it's crochet, Holy overcomplication Batman.

Sadly we have missed the discussion so can't join and find out. But honestly. What's gender got to do with it ffs. Gah.

When it out satires the actual satire except it's real.

George Perec wrote a novel in 1969, La Dispirition entirely without the letter e using Oulipo constraints. Maybe it's like that.

Typo?

MrsOvertonsWindow Wed 09-Jun-21 20:21:08

I believe that the knitting and sewing circles are some of the most vicious in terms of the 'gender wars' and purity spirals. So be very careful in case we attract the attention of the crochetxrs. grin

Yes I'm sure I remember reading something last year or the year before about just insane gender woo purity spirals in the world of knitting??

TheWeeDonkey Wed 09-Jun-21 20:22:55

Crafting beyond gender? confused

Deliriumoftheendless Wed 09-Jun-21 20:26:59

So that’s why Americans called Es X back in the day. That’s where it all began!

More likely to be navel-gazing pillock!

Ooh, I remember the knitting purity spiral thing!!

EishetChayil Wed 09-Jun-21 20:32:38

Whenever I see those woke x's, I always sound it out in my head. Womksin. Latinks. Crochetkser.

And what in the name of god are those pronouns about?

PinkyU Wed 09-Jun-21 20:40:42

@EishetChayil LatinX replaces the typical term of racial identity of Latino because it’s a masculine word and so LatinX of both sexes heavily campaign for the change in language to be sex inclusive, particularly on official documents where Latino is used as an identifier for both men and women incorrectly.

There’s lots of info and explanations of it on the internet rather than making assumptions (especially when your assumption is the antithesis of the actual meaning).

Actually, the majority of Hispanic people haven't even heard the term, and only a tiny fraction use it.

The term Latin American works if you don't want to use Latino or Latina. Or Hispanic. Or even 'Latine' if you have to. I'm not Hispanic but when I asked a friend who is, she said that 'Latinx' is a weird imposition by white English-speaking people who don't understand how pronunciation or grammatical gender works in other languages.

Chrysanthemum5 Wed 09-Jun-21 20:50:04

I read something today about how womxn as a word is transphobic as it contains an X which indicates female chromosomes. So maybe someone should tell them

Wbeezer Wed 09-Jun-21 20:51:25

I think the diversity wars in knitting were race based but there is certainly a lot of virtue signaling about. LGBTQ stuff going on too

My Latina friend uses that about herself and just whatever descriptor works otherwise. Country, region, language. You don't need some made up, unpronounceable word.

I think this bloke needs a psychiatrist.

Either that or I do because I believe my brain has just broken.

jellyfrizz Wed 09-Jun-21 21:07:15

If that actually made any sense wouldn't they be crochetess' as a femme thing?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo Wed 09-Jun-21 21:09:44

As annoying as their mix of pronouns is they aren't the worst I've seen...
