Interesting article on Unherd

unherd.com/2021/05/women-dont-feel-safe-with-labour

"... violence against women is a major issue for many — if not all of us. All the more so after a recent succession of particularly vicious murders – Sarah Everard, Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman in London, and Julia James in Kent to name the most high-profile ones. But it hardly featured in the election campaign. Rape convictions have fallen to a historic low, domestic violence is rife, sexual harassment is an everyday experience for girls and women and confidence in the criminal justice system has collapsed.

Leading figures in the party, however, seem more interested in ticking off fellow MPs and activists who “like” social media posts from feminist organisations than meeting any of the women’s groups expressing concern.

At the end of last week, the Labour MP and former frontbencher Khalid Mahmood homed in on identity politics as one of the causes of Labour’s poor showing, arguing that the party has been captured by “brigades of woke social media warriors”. But he’s a rare voice of sanity in a party that seems to have surrendered to a form of magical thinking."

Of course they feel safer with a Conservative government in power.

All this catastrophe politics like you have demonstrated in your post is doing Labour no good whatsoever. I think the Consevatives do better with law and Order than Labour. Too much woke stuff. They've lost the plot. Folk are sick of them.

Why is that? Tories underfund everything, not least police, so why "of course?"

Joan's just been on Cross Question with Iain Dale on LBC talking about this, just before half eight. Nice to hear it aired. Margaret Beckett expressed surprise at Joan's experience, so a bit more sunlight.

Yes. Conservatives are happy for women to feel safe, but only inside their designated boxes.

Labour, to say nothing of Greens, Lib Dems, and every other sorry excuse for a pro-people party, don't even see the issue. For at least half of their voters.

And then there's us, who just want women to be understood as actual human beings, like everybody else. Half of the human race, and we're homeless.

Memo to self: write to Margaret Beckett with copies of all 20-something letters I've sent to my MP over the last two years — without a single acknowledgement, let alone an answer.

The woke stuff that is happening in the Civil Service and the judicial system is being pushed by the current Govt, which is Conservative.

''Rape convictions have fallen to a historic low, domestic violence is rife, sexual harassment is an everyday experience for girls and women and confidence in the criminal justice system has collapsed.''
These are all law & order and justice issues and again, are happening under a Conservative government.

The govt had a consultation of VAWG a few years ago and they proposed to introduce compulsory PHSE, but its been diverted away from women's issues into the woke agenda.

This isn't really a party political issue.

The problem is that none of them, in the end, give a fuck about women, one way or another.

That's the problem.

We are half the population FFS.

How predictable to read a Labour bashing thread on the “feminist” board on MN.

Labour need to revisit their socialist roots and realise that identity politics have no place in a socialist party.
And what NiceGerbil says.

Attitudes like this are the problem. You do realise that most people who post here used to be Labour supporters and have not found a home with your enemies, the Tories? Yet, rather than engage, you go on the attack.

Labour was handed its arse at the start of Question Time last night. Lisa Nandy was flailing about and refusing to acknowledge there is a problem, because she has been re-elected 4 times in the last 10 years. Instead, chose to go on the attack.

Then this morning, some Labour idiot saying Priti Patel should be deported. The message for anyone who is not white: Labour is on your side as long as you are the right sort of person of colour, stay in you (victim) box, and agree with everything I say. It's barely veiled racism. Was this person calling for Teresa May to be deported during the Windrush scandal?

Labour left us behind, not the other way round.

I’ve been a Labour supporter my whole life. Over my dead body would I vote Tory.
However I feel politically homeless now and that’s the case for many women. Positioning us all as right wing is quite frankly bullshit and speaks to your own ignorance.

I had a visceral reaction to this. I am from pretty much the same immigrant (i.e parents from same region and ethnicity) background as Patel. To hear someone who purports to be left wing say this was distressing. It's the kind of thing you expect from the EDL.

I’m not on any ducking attack. Perhaps have another read of the inflammatory thread title. I’m ducking sick of this so called feminist board being a constant labour bashing trans bashing agenda. Give it a break. Is that now being on the attack? Ffs.

No. Sorry. You don't get to specify what people talk about. Especially when your beloved party have turned into misogynists, homophobes and racists.

Exactly this. And yes the racism we’ve heard about Priti Patel is shocking from Labour - just wow.

The problem is having blind loyalty to a party when they mutate into something abhorrent.

Labour don't care about women (adult human females). What on earth do you expect on the Feminist boards? Confused
