Well done, that woman. Currently on maternity leave.

'Anna Rutherford ran the coast-to-coast route from Portpatrick in the west to Cockburnspath in the east of Scotland in 62 hours and 34 minutes.'

😯 imagine pushing your body to its limit less than a year after giving birth.

Women are doing increasingly well in endurance and ultra events.

And having to navigate as well with no paths?

Well done!

Well done!StarStarStarStarStarStar

Wasn't there an awesome ultra achievement a few years ago by someone who was still breastfeeding? Perhaps there's something about pregnancy and being a new mother which adapts women for endurance? Training for carrying on without much sleep, at any rate.

I thought that. She slept for 90mins for 11mins or so at a time. This side of motherhood has to have its niche upside and here it is - phenomenal endurance in the teeth of sleep deprivation.

Amazing. All of it is, the miles, the course, the 90minutes sleep, the reduced calories.

But with a little bit of crazy thrown in, but crazy is good.

I’d mentioned it on the Jenner thread a few days ago. But ultra endurance is a sporting field that women may very well have an advantage over men. This is one more in a line of women blowing the male record in ultra events out of the water.

Apologies the woman in this story hasn’t beaten the male record. Which isn’t to diminish her achievement.

Wow, that's an astonishing achievement. To be clear, she broke the women's record. From the article, the previous record holder was 'GB runner Rosie Bell, who completed the course in 79 hours and 46 minutes in 2019.'

'Anna Rutherford ran the coast-to-coast route from Portpatrick in the west to Cockburnspath in the east of Scotland in 62 hours and 34 minutes.'

'Jack Scott, who holds the men's record with a time of 55 hours and 42 minutes, ran with her on one of the sections.'

She's a hell of a lot closer to the men's record than the last record holder was. No idea if that means eventually a woman might become overall course record holder. Jasmin Paris's achievements suggest it's at least a possibility.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasmin_Paris 'Paris set a new race record in the 2019 Spine Race along the Pennine Way, finishing the 268 miles (431.3 km) on 16 January in 83 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds. Becoming the first woman to win the event overall, she surpassed the previous record of 95 hours 17 minutes set by Eoin Keith in 2016 and the previous female record of 109 hours 54 minutes achieved by Carol Morgan in 2017.'

Unimpressed. I think these ultra events aren't good for your body and seem a displacement activity for doing other stuff in your life.

Hmm Do you have any evidence that this woman is 'displacing other things in her life'? Or that the ultra events she does are worse for her body than sitting on her arse all the time and eating crap food like a lot of people do? Are you unimpressed by all people who do endurance sports?

Sophie Power ran UTMB while breastfeeding

I follow her on Instagram, she's not long had baby number three. There is a documentary about her returning safely to running on YouTube it's worth a watch - Sophie Power the Journey from Pregnancy to Performance.

There's a good article about celebrating women's running without relating it to male achievement:

www.trailrunnermag.com/people/culture-people/beating-the-boys

I was excited to listen to a podcast with her but despite celebrating women 'not being small men' she thinks that being kind is more important than winning in the women's category.
