Labour Party leafleter today - I'm pleased I spoke up

Heard the leaflets being dropped through the letterbox just now and went out to speak to the leafletter.

I was quite nervous, but I'm so pleased I did. I asked her if she knew about policy and she was happy to answer. I asked about the local election Labour candidate's view on women's sex based rights. She answered good question, but didn't know (or perhaps she didn't want to say). I asked about the party's view and she said that the current view was anyone who self declared was a woman.

She clearly knew about the issue and said that it had come up on the doorstep. It sounded like quite a few people had mentioned it, which is great. I asked her to feed it back to the party, which she said she would.

I told her that after decades of being a member the labour party had lost my vote over this issue. We discussed my alternatives - SDP or Count Binface.

Thank you to all on FWR, without whose encouragement I don't think I would have spoken up.

That's really great that other people have also been asking questions. Progress!

I know - I didn't think that would be her response. Perhaps the message will get back up the chain.

And she called it a good question....

Well done OP. For many parties, it will only be when they start to significantly lose votes that they even consider re-evaluating their policies.

Well done OP. Political parties need to know that women are not standing for all this and will not vote for them

tbh I am too scared to say this to any candidates because I have already been labelled a t*rf in certain corners of Facebook and don't want to encourage this slurring of me among my local community.

CallMeCleo - it was easier talking face-to-face than it would be on social media. I was a bit nervous, but after years of reading FWR I do know all the main points to make.

I also said that many women feel strongly about this, but are afraid to speak out.
