How is being an incel linked to deliberately planning and then carrying out the murdering rampage?

Autism doesn't make you murder people.
This is nothing but patriarchal terrorism. Sad

Festers online - an excellent description on the world of Incels.

Bloody insulting to people with Autism too.

Interesting that the article says that it is thought to be the first ‘incel’ based murder, I thought Elliot Roger was famously an incel and he murdered 6 people in May 2014.

Whilst it wasn't termed as "incel" back in 1989, I'd say the École Polytechnique murders in Montréal was the same.

Yes he was. It was even in his "manifesto".

Oh yes MoltenLasagne they could maybe be classed as incel also, I’d forgotten about them, thank you.
The murderer actually said for the men to leave the room before he started killing, although I believe he said his reason was the rise of feminism, no idea if the poor little lamb couldn’t get anyone to sleep with him. Hmm

I think I'm trying to get it all around my head. I can't quite understand how killing randomly (not even specifically targeting women) equates to being on an incel forum. But from the links it looks like they can and do incite violence. I do wonder how many are ASC on those forums.

It says it's the first trial. Roger killed himself.

In that case it might have been because he couldn't stand being outcompeted by clever women.

I've got a DD who is an engineering student, of all the atrocities committed by men on women that's the one which hits me like a wall.

Reddit had to close their Incel subreddit because it was getting too extreme... I shudder to think what "too extreme" means on Reddit. It's notoriously hard to close down a subreddit.

I'm glad he's been found guilty. And I'm glad papers are reporting it accurately rather than the common (in the UK) "poor little lamb was tipped over the edge by those mean women" angle.

Good grief cheese. That's awful!

And when exactly (between 2019 and now) did The Guardian go from being a straight talking journalistic paper, to a double-talk, myoginistic gutter rag?

Ant MNetters who were/are regular Guardian readers: what happened?

Good question.

Off topic but I've noticed Owen Jones opinion pieces appearing again. I hadn't seen him about for ages, did he go somewhere or did I just block him from my conscious mind?

I have just read an article by Hardeep Singh where Incels are considered extremist. It's about the difficulty of cracking down on hate. Here's the extract
A new report by the Commission for Countering Extremism (CCE), ‘Operating with Impunity Hateful extremism: The need for a legal framework’ says the nature and scale of extremist activities in Britain which are lawful is both ‘shocking and ‘dangerous’. The CCE was set up by Theresa May following the Manchester Arena bombings, when Salman Abedi detonated an improvised explosive device in the foyer of the Manchester Arena killing 22 people, including children. The report focuses on Islamic extremists, the Far Right, and the lesser-known ‘Incels’ (involuntary celibates). There’s only a couple of mentions of the ‘hard left’, despite the rise of Antifa. The authors argue there’s currently a gap in existing legislation to tackle what they define as ‘hateful extremism’, and this permits extremists to ‘operate lawfully, freely, and with impunity’. Surprisingly, the report highlights that it’s currently perfectly legal to glorify a terrorist as long as you don’t encourage members of the public to emulate the terrorist’s behaviour. The report highlights ‘harmful materials online’ influencing younger more impressionable minds – and points to every parent’s nightmare, with children as young as 12 ‘being sought out by extremist groups’.

I assume there is no extra tarif to the custodial sentence in the basis if it being a hate crime?

Report
Gcnq · 04/03/2021 15:19

Misogyny isn't listed under hate crime.

Stella Creasey has campaigned to get it added but just gets shouted down by woke blokes "well then misandry should be added too". Yes fair enough. Add misandry too then.

Are you blokes now going to campaign for laws around this terribly problem of women targeting and murdering men? No one stopping you!

Funnily enough the campaign to add misogyny to hate crime legislation hasn't gotten anywhere....

Stella has been in consultation with Stonewall, I believe they now want to include transwomen in the OED meaning. Stella often says 'all women'

I wonder why people don’t engage brain/critical thinking when ‘consulting’. Don’t they know that they can say no?

It's in Canada, I don't know what, if any, hate crime laws they have.
