Very woke friend upset about gender based violence

Friend is wholeheartedly of the TWAW brigade. She has however today out a whole thread on social media about a new chip shop called Jack and the Chipper which has maps of Whitechapel murder sites on its walls. She is upset about this, which is fair enough, and is speaking out about gender based violence. Very tempted to say it's sex based violence. Would that be twattish of me?

Not even remotely. ‘Jack’ murdered women because they were women.

If only they could have identified out of that category eh?

Do you think that rapists and abusers check someone's chromosomes before attacking them?

No, we think that rapists and abusers can tell whether a prospective target is female or male. What they can't tell, mind, is whether the prospective target has some internal sense of gender identity.

There was a grim story I read from 2018-19 about a rape victim who cried "I'm a man" or "I identify as a man" or words to that effect to her assailant. The assailant, of course, did not care and didn't stop because of this.

I think that store wasn’t entirely truthful (if it’s the one I’m thinking of) and/or this person was the most unlucky person in the history of the world as every week there seemed to be another dramatic episode in their life on twitter.

The term gender based violence has been around for longer than the current interpretation of gender though.

Funny how he managed to only pick women without needing a chromosome check isn't it !

Tell her to read, "The Five."

I bet they can tell which women identify as women and which were born women Wink

I don't think it was the same person.

Does it really have maps of the murder sites on the walls? That’s pretty awful and she has a point (although I agree her language is incorrect). When will we as a society stop glorifying violence against women?

And yes a second vote for reading The Five, its an excellent book, a really good insight into the reality of women's lives in Victorian Britain.

Statistics state gender based violence is extremely rare, especially compared to sex based violence. They’re being disingenuous

I give a third vote for The Five, it’s brilliant. Really humanises the women and tells you so much more about their lives instead of the reductive ‘they were prostitutes’.

You must find dealing with humans very difficult if you have no clue what sex they are without a DNA test.

Presumably you misgender a lot of women with short hair wearing trousers and men who don't like football?

I have no idea where I am in the order, but The Five is excellent.
I wish we didn't have to use sex or gender to describe violence against women and girls. Wouldn't it be lovely if they were just left alone and safe?

Do you think they check their gender identity?
