Mumsnet says Trans Rights are Human Rights!

I always assumed Mumsnet were not the biggest supporters of trans rights, given the stories about them. But this is a good statement on Twitter, "of course trans people exist, and of course trans rights are human rights"

I have no problem with Trans Rights are Human Rights.
So are Women's though, sometimes they come onto conflict. When that happens we need to discuss it and work out solutions

Absolutely, trans rights are human rights- trans people are all human, and have human rights. I’ve never seen a user here say otherwise.

And trans rights are women’s rights, if those trans people have a need for women’s specific rights by virtue of having female bodies that perform the functions to which those rights pertain (eg pregnancy). I’ve never seen a user here say otherwise.

But you’ve lost me with the last sentence. What do you mean by “valid”, I’ve always been curious, can you enlighten me?

You have misread the tweet. They say they don't ban people for saying 'cis'. That doesn't mean they support use of the word 'cis' or that a post that used that term wouldn't be deleted if judged to be offensive.

I don't think anyone has ever argued that trans rights aren't human rights.

I personally find 'trans women are women' offensive because it only makes sense if you believe that people should be classed according to gender not sex, which enforces the oppressive concept of gender while removing the language required to protect women's rights.

Trans people are human, therefore of course their rights are human rights.

As for the term ‘cis’. MN recognises some find it unnecessary or offensive so therefore to use it cautiously. Not sure who you think said it was a banned term?

There are 33,000 peer reviewed papers on Google Scholar that use the term "cisgender", people have reported being banned from here for using that term when it is endemic in all discussions of sex and gender in academia. Glad these are all mistakes or misreports, as how can you discussed evidence when a lot of it has a banned word in it?

Otherwise referring to people who are "not transgender" can get a bit difficult. Talking about cis men and women is a lot easier. Although I know some intersex advocacy groups prefer ipsogender rather than cisgender.
