Joanna Cherry is due to speak! Unfortunately so is Crispin Blunt Grin

Most of the speakers are TWAW, I think.

That list of speakers looks ominous.

If they have any sense they, or their advisors, will have noted the reaction of the public to the HoL amendment.

I too have had a lovely reply to my email to the HOL. Considering my own MP has ignored me for the last 2 years, this makes a refreshing change.

I'm quite happy for some of these MPs to stand up in Parliament and state publicly that the word "mother" should be banned from a bill on maternity rights. Let the public see what they really stand for.

I have no doubt at all it will be a list (excepting Joanna) of finger waggy sadness at the sheer horribleness of those questioning the eradication of sex based rights for women. We'll probably be able to fill out a bingo card.

It won't however change a single word said in the HoL. Which covered all the bases, and laid them right out for the cabinet to see, including that this was a really rubbish job of drafting. And the warning shot is very clearly there that the HoL are not going to wave through this... how did they term it? All out assault on women's sex based rights?

Aah, Mr '' You've had strident women's rights campaigners... who have provoked trans people to respond often in an angry and confrontational way, and that is unsurprising because this is a central assault on their identity '' Blunt.

Look what you made me do...

No, legislation tends to ping back and forward between the HoC and HoL a few times. It's entirely possible that any amendments the HoL make will get reversed by the HoC, so it will be interesting to see how voting on it goes this afternoon

Will they insist on amending the amendments I wonder? Grin

yeah this argument never works for women, does it?

And it's women whose words are being removed and obliterated and whose visibility in law is being cancelled, and who will have some of their number left without access to any spaces or resources at all. Central assault on their identity apparently all fine and no cause for any unladylike grumpiness.

Does anyone know if it will be streamed live on YouTube? I don't have access to live tv today.

I haven't been following this all that closely, but am I correct in thinking that the government has now agreed to have the word "mother" in the draft legislation, so it wouldn't be a case of MPs arguing against an amendment but actively arguing that the government should remove the word "mother"?

I believe that's correct, yes.

I believe that's correct, yes.

Where it gets really fun is if someone actually raises an amendment to change the wording back to "person", and if they do, whether the various parties whip to force support for one position or another.

This looks to be some long hard painful viewing with an intermission of leaping out of my chair roaring "hell yeah" to everything Joanna Cherry says.

Hopefully they paid attention to the Lords both days last week and we're informed of the fantastic response, they certainly won't have heard or seen anything much about it in the press

5:15 is too early for a medicinal cocktail sadly.

The DUP know that humans can't change sex. I may be cheering for the DUP for the second time in a week and only the second time in my life
Just a few days ago we were saying "Get in mate. Nice work" to Rand Paul 😄 . Strange times.

I have just written to my MP again pointing out the HofL speeches and the fact that ‘gender neutral’ drafting is not relevant to this law (his response last time). I don’t know how the process works but if there is a vote I’ve asked him to support the amendment.

OhHolyJesus - maybe we are allowed cocktails to ‘cheers’ Joanna Cherry?

But am I right in thinking that as it was a Government amendment that was passed in the house of Lords, it will not get through the Commons fine, as the Government will win any vote due to their majority? (Obviously major 'voting against the whip' aside, which would appear unlikely).
