For those not on Twitter, he’s put out a series of tweets in the last hour:

I realise this is not an easy decision to make. I realise there might be a lot of pressure to remain silent at this time of diminishing finances & scarce work. I realise that one would open oneself up to appalling online abuse & the potential shunning of friends, family, etc . 1.

But this moment is critical. The fantasists are extremely vocal & vociferous. The silent majority are not even on social media. It would mean sacrifice. It would mean battling. It would mean standing up for reason & common sense. It would mean standing up for your mothers ..2.

Your sisters, your aunts, your nieces, your grandmothers. In fact, it would mean standing up for all the women who raised & nurtured you. You’ll be accused of being “phobia, of wishing death on people, of being hateful”. We all know this is untrue. But please, I beg you...3.

This is a critical moment in time. We must have more voices. From men, gay & straight, from people with a large following, from people who aren’t fooled by the trend of the moment. I ask you all to stand up for women. They need us now more than ever. Please listen, hear & act. X

What's it a call to arms to do? We know, we're insiders, but for anyone looking in from the outside they'll be nonplussed. It looks like Friday night indulgence to me, even though I think he's a rare example of a bloke who has made a courageous and public stand.

International Womens' Day is coming up soon. Maybe we will all stay silent, maybe not. Wondering if anything is in the planning. Apparently march on Washington but haven't heard of anything else.

James is lovely. He's been a total star and advocate for women through this - he's got a lot of GC followers and I know I could personally do more writing letters and more pushing. It's the giving birth thing - push til you can't push any more, then keep pushing even harder!!!!

I appreciate his efforts.

I'm not sure who You Know Who Is but James has already done a world of good, and I'm very uncomfortable with policing other people's friends. Guilt by association is a very bad road to go down.

Just like all those TRAs who aren’t trans can say what they want.

Unless they intend to shut up and keep out of it, which they clearly don’t for their own reasons that are rarely questioned by the people they support.
