(347 Posts)Posie Parker has been warned by Zoom that her account may be suspended for promoting hate. Now she can sometimes go a bit far, but as far as I am aware all she does is deny TWAW, which is still supported by UK and probably US law. Are they going to ban the UK government when it debates trans rights too. This is absolutely terrifying over reach. Can anyone still be in denial about the deeply illiberal nature of this shit show. What have we let happen under our noses. What are we still letting happen? What is wrong with people? Why can't they see?
She never promotes hate. The crime she commits is promoting safeguarding, and standing against evil forces that are hell bent on removing the very words we women need to describe our lived reality.
Knowing the difference between males and females is a hate crime to some people. Saying that men are not women and that statistics show they retain the sexual offending patterns of other men even after transition is considered a hate crime too. I saw a woman get banned from twitter for sharing a table of statistics from the ministry of justice, listing which percentage of each sex had been convicted of violent crimes, rapes and murders. Those statistics were reported as evidence of her misandry and intention to spread hatred, and the twitter moderator concurred, and banned her.
Hopefully Zoom are just reacting automatically to a deluge of unfounded complaints from the usual deranged and abusive mob, and once a human looks at the situation the ban will be lifted. You can never be sure though, remember that tribunal judge who decided that knowing men can't become women was 'not worthy of respect in democratic society?
Doesn't matter either way, because Posie is an unstoppable force. Attempts to silence and thwart her only seem to motivate her further. She's like a tsunami of non nonsense motherhood, which may be why they are so determined to smear and discredit her.
Personally I'm pretty sure that given the right support she'd do a better job of running the country than Boris and his cronies.
This is the most explicit example of "First they came for the communists " i have seen in our era
When they came for the communists they either murdered them or threw them in jail, I'm not sure being possibly banned from zoom is quite the same.

Yet ...
Any activist involved in silencing women in this way should be deeply deeply ashamed. It is despicable. I listen to trans people, to the arguments. But this sort of thing makes me lose sympathy. It says to me that what is wanted is not acceptance but dominion. It is age old. The hatred is not coming from Posie, quite the opposite.
There was that time she said that trans men should be sterilised. And repeated it when challenged.
But hey, let’s gloss over that again and make Posie the victim.
I'm worried for freedom of speech. Being offensive isn't an offence.
I'm looking at posts on twitter that say 'kill all t*rfs' and countless death and rape threats and I'm thinking, I wouldn't take lessons from the poster above. Look to your own side. Women aren't obliged to be perfect and I may not agree with Posie (which is irrelevant, I don't police her and her opinions have nothing to do with me) but I agree much less with the attacks on her from those with a beam in their own eye.

Just because silencing women starts in a small innocuous way doesn’t make it acceptable.
Do you think we shouldn’t be concerned until someone gets murdered or thrown in prison for their beliefs?
@JustAmotherOne you have the opportunity to come onto a public forum and be glib about the silencing of others. The conversation around motherhood is a conversation mothers have had together for centuries. I didn't hear her say that. It is highly likely there was a more nuanced discussion happening. Probably you didn't understand it. Do we silence everything you don't understand?

good point.
Some activists don’t like the things Posie says so try to shut her up by complaining to the platforms she uses.
Some posters don’t like us posting about it so try to minimise the situation by implying Pose brought it on herself for being a bit mean and making some men feel bad.
If your ideology means you have to silence dissenters in which ever form they come, we’re not the problem.
She's like a tsunami of non nonsense motherhood
Love this description!

Agreed.
Communism was also a threat to patriarchal capitalism.
Encouraging American men to go into womens toilets carrying arms to safeguard their women was probably not helpful for her to suggest (in the pulled video). I don't need safeguarding, especially from armed men in bathrooms.
She has freedom of speech - but not without consequence. There are better ways to make the argument. Not a fan.

DId she actually say 'Transmen should be sterilised'?
Or did she say that if a female had dysphoria so badly that they had to transition to relieve it, that was rather at odds with then going through the uniquely female process of pregnancy?
I like Posie - but don't necessarily agree with everything she says - so the news that she might be banned from Zoom is worrying.
There are increasingly few public spaces that allow women to talk about issues facing them so hearing that Zoom might be the next to capitulate is cause for concern.

Except that's not actually what she did.
But even if she had, that's not the point. The point is that she only ever talks about wanting to preserve women's rights to single sex spaces for our safety, dignity and privacy.
And a lot of people want her to stop talking about it.
It's like that one time a TRA sent that one death threat.
It invalidates everything every trans advocate says, ever.
Such a pity they did that. Ordinary people and big organisations might have listened. Oh if only that one rude person had toned it down a little.
Plenty of women are concerned about the unknown effects that taking huge doses of testosterone can have on the unborn child.

Indeed - the public lynching in effigy of the Spanish (female) Deputy Prime Minister is moving them along the line a bit. Her ‘crime’ was to sign a statement in support of women’s rights.
Who will be next?

Yes this. Women are always held to higher standards and mens violence/aggression is always ignored.

Ah, I get what you mean, just like being "misgendered" is probably the most first world of all problems?
