Feminism: Sex & gender discussions

Scouting still riddled.

This popped up in my Facebook today. An interesting discussing followed, one group crying sexist, another pointing out the imbalance between males and females in programming/it.

Then there were calls of transphobia, which didn't make sense. Unless you assume that some sensible scouter has suggested that if a boy was so desperate to take part he identify as female. That leader has now been banned according to the comments Hmm and commenting switched off.

This is Facebook, but the UK groups demonstrate a similar level of wokeness.

Disappointed in the government body running the programme, it clearly states in their small print "identifies as female". I'm going to assume that similar to certain other organisations funded by the taxpayer they have a higher proportion than average of transfemales.

Scouting still riddled.

Cyber First runs courses for 11-16yo encouraging and supporting them into IT careers. At a guess (and based upon my attempts to sign my boys up for their courses over the last 10 years) 70-80% of their courses are aimed at girls, with the rest mixed-sex, because a major objective of this organisation is getting girls into STEM.

When my eldest first began attending their courses, the literature spoke only of "girls". I cynically agree with that Scout leader. At some point this organisation decided to deprioritise improving the under-representation of girls.

Will they prioritise a transboy in the way they claim to prioritise girls?

The link I found for Cyber First simply refers to female www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberfirst/girls-competition

So scouts are incorrect and discriminatory in their posting as it is open to all females in the appropriate age group including those who might identify as non binary or male

I've seen a lot of "trans and proud" posts recently. Haven't checked the policies of scouting recently but DH hasn't mentioned any updates. He's very GC, it took a fair bit of work.

It said females, which I also thought promising. Then I looked at the NCSC rules:www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberfirst/competition-rules-regulations
• All team members must identify as female, be in Year 8 in England and Wales, S2 in Scotland and Year 9 in Northern Ireland and be attending a UK-based school.
