Responding, Coun Adair said: "It's not up for debate. Trans rights are human rights. Recently, Ofcom rapped the BBC for involving TERFs [trans-exclusionary radical feminists] in a debate about trans rights.
"You wouldn't debate a Nazi on antisemitism."
A rather unpleasant row has blown up in Preston, after one councillor 'liked' two tweets: 'I do not give permission to have the word woman appropriated'. and another referring to a twaw tweet.
The other councillor (quoted above) has equated people who defend women's rights with Nazis and lied about the Ofcom thing - I don't think she actually went as far as 'rapping the BBC' did she?
I am quite amazed that this newspaper happily quotes the outraged councillor with no apparent hesitation, labelling a large part of his constituency (?) as Nazis. Would the council leader usually be the person that this sort of behaviour was reported to? I think it is utterly outrageous.
This row has come a week to the day after the Preston Council voted unanimously to extend equality training among councillors on the subject of trans and non-binary awareness. They also voted to fly the transgender flag during Transgender Awareness Week next year (and every year I think)
