(10 Posts)Fantastic.! Thanks everyone.
I have tons here to go on - I'm really grateful.
Please do one on disability, race (all, not just BLM), religion and women.
And no Stonewall.
There's plenty of scope to do something about diversity without involving Stonewall, mermaids, etc.
Look at the list of protected characteristics:
Age
Disability
Gender reassignment
Marriage and civil partnership
Pregnancy and maternity
Race
Religion or belief
Sex
Sexual orientation
There should be lots there you can work with. Ignore any resources from Stonewall - throw them into the bin where they belong. Write to organisations involved with the above characteristics and ask for resources or advice.
Could you go down the diversity angle rather than Stonewall? More positive stories/pictures/events on different cultures, disability etc? Could tie it in with the BLM protests earlier in the year for context.
Or do you have a local LGBT group that could provide local information that might be more relevant?
Can you do something on gay and lesbian history? e.g. Lesbians & Gays Support the miners, the Stonewall riots, the first gay pride marches, lesbians at Greenham Common...
Use the original rainbow flag, talk about the gay community, talk about the social acceptance of gay marriage. Have picture of celebrated lesbians and homosexuals. Talking about struggles, what was done to the legally in the past. What there were and weren’t allowed to do contrasted with today. Go back to the roots of Oride
* Without giving too much info, I've been asked to create something for work, celebrating diversity.*
Could you side-step the issue by focussing on a non-stonewall related aspect of diversity - disabilities perhaps?
Could you do something that would be more in line with what you feel Pride used to be about? Do you have to use the Stonewall resources?
Why would you help a misogynistic and homophobic organisation?
How does one continue to support Pride when I feel that it's not what it used to be?
Without giving too much info, I've been asked to create something for work, celebrating diversity. I work in a school. The resource will be seen by everyone.
Resources have come through from Stonewall. I am tempted to sit on my hands and not do it.
Help!
