What's the best way to show Keira Bell how much we appreciate her?

Sorry, I know there is another thread on Keira's amazing victory yesterday, but it's not taking any more comments and I cant read through it all.

I know Keira has been on MN before, so may be she will see all of our comments from yesterday, but I am just struck by how incredibly brave that young woman has been and continues to be. And now ridiculous BBC journalists are somehow ignoring the 30+ pages of considered legal judgement which found that the best interests of children was NOT to rush them onto hormone treatments and are instead basically telling Keira their misery is her fault. It's beyond belief.

The emotional depths Keira will need to be digging into to survive this are beyond my comprehension. Here I am, a middle aged woman and mother with many advantages in life, and I cant even tweet to her my respect and thanks and admiration because I cannot handle the inevitable fall out for my career and private life. I know I am not the only one by a long shot who is in that position.

So, what can we do? How do we show her how utterly amazing she is? How do we thank her? I know she cr0wd fund3d her case, but is more needed? Is there some way we can help her more directly, personally? Or just show our appreciation? As I write this I think that may be what's really needed is more of us to "come out" as GC. I'll need to think about that. I'm not sure I'm as brave as Keira. But short of that, what else can we do?

I too hope that Keira is reading these threads. She has done more to protect the well-being and safety of vulnerable kids than professionals. I hope that she can look back on this throughout her life and know that she made a difference. Thousands of kids will be safer because of her. Not many people can say that. Amazing woman.

Good question. She might not be aware how many people are just so damn impressed with her. So bloody brave in the face of this juggernaut.

I know it was a team effort - but this is it...

It's also important to not forget Stephanie Arai (Trangender Trend). I suspect the evidence she supplied to the hearing would have been the reason why this was won. And she would've done this for free on top of working full-time.

persistentwoman Wed 02-Dec-20 11:56:38

It must have taken such a toll on Keira and she has responded with such maturity and wisdom. And I agree with MidCleg about Stephanie.

It's a tricky one - it may be that Keira wants to return to private life - or it may be that she decides that pursuing this (as there's still a mountain to climb) is what she wants to do? Perhaps contacting Transgender Trend and asking via there?

I want to cheer them all. There's been some fantastic work and sacrifices to achieve the recent victories. Organisations and campaigns have been created from scratch - mostly by ordinary people who stepped up.

Keira has been meeting with the Baroness today:

"Thank you Keira, brave, talented and beautiful as you are. Emma"

highame Wed 02-Dec-20 15:15:05

I would like for Kiera, a great job that she can love for the rest of her working life flowers and I am sure there is a good chance she'll get one. Bet the Baroness has a few contacts grin

It's a shame we cant have something like A Woman's Place Awards .. just been listening to Ben Cohen from Pink News blathering on about Pink News Awards on Times Radio so it's on my mind.

Wouldn't it be great if we could give awards to all these brave women.

Cwenthryth Wed 02-Dec-20 15:25:51

I sent her a card via her solicitor. Just telling her she’s awesome.

JoodyBlue Wed 02-Dec-20 15:26:16

Definitely what is needed is for all of us to come out as gender critical. Julie Bindel has talked about this. The difficulty in doing it individually is we face the backlash personally. And as this is mumsnet, personal fall out means family fall out and where we would risk it for ourselves, we might not feel able to risk it for our families. There must be a way........ Also huge appreciation to Keira and the team who supported her. I am astounded at that courage and deeply humbled by it.

Lets not forget that Mrs A started this judicial review. Yes, Keira Bell has been awesome!! And we are all very grateful. She was not alone, Mrs A choose to remain anonymous but she still deserves our gratitude and respect.

Thingybob Wed 02-Dec-20 15:39:53

I changed the background of my phone yesterday as I'm so inspired by these three women. I also thought it would be a subtle way of outing myself as GC

OhHolyJesus Wed 02-Dec-20 16:40:08

I will send a card, good idea.

I think we can continue to show support in crowdfunders/court cases challenging the Tavi like David Bell and Sonia Appleby.

Mrs A and Keira may well want some peace and quiet and well deserved rest and a stress free life (or less stressful anyway!).

I send love to all and a huge congrats and in cards we can send our appreciation but otherwise I think I'd leave them return to their lives and be out of the public eye and therefore less likely to be under attack from all those who are thoroughly pissed off right now!

They have done so much, I will forever be in awe of their bravery and strength and Susan and Marcus Evans who have been doing this for a very long time. What an amazing team!

I will donate to one of the upcoming cases - I want to see what she has done built upon. She has laid a good foundation.

The next judicial review is in January in Scotland. For Women Scotland are challenging the Scottish Government redefining of " Woman" in law. One of the publicly funded groups has just decided to make things more difficult and expensive.

What fabulous photos!

I have so much admiration for Keira. The bravery it took for her to make a stand the way she did just floors me. I can only imagine how she must be feeling and what this victory must mean to her personally. Thank you, Keira! flowers

ChateauMargaux Thu 03-Dec-20 16:10:59

@Thingybob Who are the other women in this photo?

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero Fri 04-Dec-20 13:31:55

If anyone would like to chip into a treats pot for Keira (to spend on whatever the heck she fancies!) please let me know and I will send you a link.

Hey up!

I'm Keira's partner. Some of you may remember me as the woman chucked out of pub a couple of years back for wearing an Adult Human Female Tshirt. Still haven't been back.

Keira's extremely modest and feels like she's being cheeky, but I have no such qualms in thinking she deserves zillions of accolades for the tremendous courage she's shown over this past year. So, without further ado, presuming I'm allowed to post this, here's her paypal if ya fancy buying her a beer.

(I do have permission to do this, honest grin)

Why is the name Quincy?

MerchedCymru Fri 04-Dec-20 13:42:04

Hi Badday The post will probably be removed (against MN rules) but if you could point us in the right direction to find that link elsewhere I'm sure lots of us will want to pitch in. That's one awesome GF you've got there. And I do remember you! A perfect match it seems. flowers

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero Fri 04-Dec-20 13:54:38

Why is the name Quincy?

It’s Keira’s official name, as shown on the ruling.

There is a lot of red tape involved in going back (the GRA didn’t allow for a GRC fo be annulled) but fortunately, Keira is resilient enough not to melt into puddles over mentions of her dead name (undeadname? 😂) which is just as well, because both Mermaids and GenderGP seem to be hellbent on using it, rather than follow the guidelines the press uses and refer to Keira by her current name.

ThatIsNotMyUsername Fri 04-Dec-20 13:57:32

Ah - so that’s why the fishy ones were making a point of using this name... deaddeadnaming then? So you are who you say you are (but just if they agree?)
