Looks like they're gunning for gay men now. Anything other than complete agreement is no good.

Readers here will be used to this sort of insanity:

I wonder if it will wake up those who have not seen it before?

Apparently it was a good seminar to have been in. Anyone attend?

Ha ha.

Bet their be-penised readers still aren't interested in gentlemen with vulvas, though.

Gay men are still ONLY going to Gay though so.......

They might as well have just tweeted 'forgive us Father, for we have sinned'.

Still it's looking like a mere confession in the box isn't going to be enough, so they might have to reach for the hairshirt and cilice belt?

Why are they meeting with Mermaids? I assume Boyz despite its name is for consenting adult men rather than for children

Best comment on there: '“Do it to Julia!”'

I don't visit very often but Data Lounge seems quite gender critical.

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand that? Confused

It's what Winston says in room 101 when he's about to be eaten alive by rats. 1984.

Just saw this. I was going to go to the webinar but didn't want to take a space that might be used by a gay man. Really disappointed at the retreat.

Not to mention:

'We got it wrong. Please forgive us. We will be setting up a meeting with @Mermaids_Gender in the very near future to help improve our relationship and our reporting of trans issues and their concerns. David Bridle, Managing Editor, Boyz.'

Why mermaids though? Why not Stonewall? Mermaids is about 'trans' kids not gay men.

I know Stonewall isn't for gay me either, not anymore, but by their mission statement alone Mermaids is not the way to go. They even got that wrong. This won't go well for Boyz. Lots of support for LGB Alliance though so 👍🏻

Agree about Mermaids. It's a children's charity, isn't it? And this is a magazine for adult gay men? Where is the overlap? Where is the relevance?

A good example I'd say of what the vast majority of LGB people really think of attempts to carve off the trans. Almost every well known gay business London just refused to stop stocking Boyz. I realise lots of straight people love them but LGB Alliance are clearly utterly toxic within LGBT circles.

LGB people are disappointed at the retreat and are boycotting the magazine because of the apology?

Surprise surprise it was David Paisley who bullied their sponsors online in order to force the retraction
He loves silencing people.

It's just so classy isn't it? None of the drama. I can understand why LGB people just want a calm discussion instead of all the tantrums, it's getting very tiresome. I'm not surprised to see so much support for them on Twitter tonight, though I think Boyz are toast. Even if Mermaids showed their support of Boyz I think they will just be driven to ground for not prioritising the T 100% of the time. Capitulate or die.

I went to the webinar, and it was great, hearing gay men who obviously understood what was happening to women, and all the pitfalls of gender ideology. And it's sad to remember that they were praising Boyz for being open to discussion, how important this was. And then I came out of the webinar and a short while later, saw what was happening on Twitter....

It does seem to make sense to separate support people whose sexuality is not always accepted or supported and may be discriminated for because of that and people whose gender identity puts them in the same situation. Since we keep being told sexuality and gender are completely different things, why not be seen separate.

Since we keep being told sexuality and gender are completely different things, why not be seen separate.

Firstly because trans and LGB people have always stood together in solidarity and been stronger for it.

Secondly because pretty much anyone trans in a relationship is going to be viewed as LGB by some people and likely to face homophobia as a result.

Thirdly our enemies are the same, those who are transphobic and usually homophobic as well.

And finally because a lot of LGB people are also gender non-conforming so it is in the interests of us all to fight for a society which is not hostile towards people whose gender identity or presentation does not conform to the sex they were born.

Solidarity? There's solidarity in a trans woman telling a lesbian she is a bigot if she doesn't sleep with them?

Report

"Thirdly our enemies are the same, those who are transphobic and usually homophobic as well."

Except for the parents who send their kids to the Tavistock Clinic because having them be trans is better than them being gay, of course.

Or all of Iran.

Not to mention that 'homophobia' involves explicit nastiness about and towards gay people while 'transphobia' involves 'anything that deviates from the accepted orthodoxy and includes a lot of gleeful misogyny'.

"Firstly because trans and LGB people have always stood together in solidarity and been stronger for it."

There's always been conflict between the L, G and B, never mind adding the T in there. Women have not always been well-served by gay rights activism, despite contribution and support. The idea that the whole LGBT community are also in favour of women's rights and are wonderful feminist allies is something gay men like to tell themselves, but it's not true. There's plenty of misogyny there.
