Irish women will be heard (trending)

Hi everyone. #WeWillBeHeard is trending on twitter in Ireland. It is in reponse to Amnesty International, the National Women's Council of Ireland and other major NGO's calling for people who "defend biology" or who are gender critical to be disenfranchised.

Their words: "..Let us say unequivocally that the statements of newly launched organisations that seek to defend biology or fight gender identity and expression do not represent the wider LGBTI+ community nor feminists in Ireland... We call on media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs."

This is a thread with pictures and the hastag which is trending

A response letter from The Countess didn't fight for this thecountessdidntfightforthis.com/we-will-be-heard/

And an archived copy of the original ridiculous letter they are replying to (usual tropes about being far right etc) archive.is/glPXl#selection-1561.0-1561.202

Brilliant! With them every inch of the way, this was way, way over the line and every politician and establishment now needs to be clear that when they share their support for trans people either they make clear that they do not support and separate themselves from any anti-women, violent rhetoric, the threats and the appalling extremism that comes from some elements of this lobby, or else they are actively involved in supporting and furthering such extremism themselves. And should be publicly recorded and named as doing so.

Love to see it. If I didn't know better I'd swear all these companies and orgs were deliberately trying to peak every woman in the world.

Can't believe anyone was actually proud to sign that steaming pile of shite. Actually bragged about it. Some of the most heinous people in the world are still entitled to representation, yet women should be stripped of it for not being reality deniers? Remind me again whose human rights are in danger here?

Interesting that Amnesty's doubling down isn't 'yes we said that and we were right to say it' but 'yes it may SAY that, but if you read it in context it doesn't really mean that unless you're mean and misinterpreting'.

HQ, we're going to need a bigger eye roll emoticon.

It’s a good letter. But I wonder if the message would be clearer if it was noted 1. The large number of male to female transsexual people who retain intact functional male genitalia 2. That the term trans woman means in the context most often cited a male to female transsexual abd a trans man means a female to man transecual. People often seem to think that a trans woman is a woman who wishes to identify as male and vice versa. Which means they will not understand the full impact on equality issues and 3 distinguish between people with DSD and trans people as many people (myself included before reading this board) believed trans people were people with DSD rather than dysphoria

Very true. Numerous conversations I've had on the subject have revealed that people are totally confused about the terms.

As their doubling down statement is rather bizarre - they are referring to ‘those spreading vitriol and misinformation’ should be denied their basic human rights but what do they mean by vitriol or misinformation?

In the original letter they mention this that defend biology so are they talking about misinformation about biology? Who is spreading that I wonder??

I noticed a tweet from a TW saying women have been heard for long enough (😂) and have been silencing transpeople for centuries (😂) Ended their tweet with #sciencewins. 🤣🤣 Whilst defending Amnesty's position to see women who defend science stripped of representation.

Quite. If people are “misinterpreting” the letter, then obviously it wasn’t clear enough, was it? It was a dreadful letter- meandering, obtuse, over emotional and far, far FAR too long- so how anyone was meant to parse any sense out of it at all is beyond me.

Despite that, it did in fact manage to say that certain groups of women are not worthy of representation due to belief in material reality. If that wasn’t the case, it should be pretty easy to clear up by removing the “confusing” part of the letter, and clarifying what exactly that part did mean.

Just fuck off, amnesty. You’re embarrassing.

And really asking me if I read it??? Do you think I would have responded like that without without reading it?

Colm O'Gorman:

While "I've no idea", is good, and true, you have to wonder if he thought it was just her 'time of the month'.

There is an awful lot of 'the Brits are screwing over Ireland once again by importing their TERFism here' going on on Twitter as well, as if Irish women are incapable of coming to their own conclusions on this issue.

This is appalling from Amnesty. Just this week I had a call from them about restarting my direct debit. They cited their work to help Nazanin Zaghari-Radcliffe, which made me consider going back. Asked them to call back while I thought about it. Absolutely no chance now.

Yes, no Irish woman could possibly have a mind of her own. She must be being radicalised and brainwashed by those damn pesky British terfs.

Got to laugh at Amnesty Ireland calling on people not from Saudi Arabia to support women in Saudi Arabia. According to the Executive Director of Amnesty Ireland, you shouldn't have opinions on the treatment of women from different countries if you're not from there yourself 🤔 So what are Amnesty Ireland doing butting their noses in on other women's business and encouraging us to do the same? Trying to radicalise Saudi Arabian's with their way of thinking, are they??

no Irish woman could possibly have a mind of her own.

Or a long and terrible history of how their mothers, grandmothers and female relatives were treated in Ireland. The women disappeared into the Magdalen laundries which finally closed only in the late 1990s, the hundreds of children who died like flies (or worse happened to them) in Tuam and other places and bodies were dumped in the septic tank, mass graves not yet even unearthed.... fgs, Irish women on that thread, Irish women in that letter referencing all this, and some muppet who thinks they're into 'social justice' has nothing more to say than how they're all horribly misled by the nasty Brits.

These people are supposed to care about equality and inclusion and fairness and the oppressed, they never shut up emoting about it - and yet from their actions you'd think they had no idea what those words actually mean. It's beyond baffling.

Report
BrassicaRabbit · 24/11/2020 21:11

I understand Amnesty's "you're taking what we said out of context" as revealing that they don't actually believe TWAW either but see it as a politically expedient view to hold.
