John Cleese seems to be having fun on Twitter this morning. It may be a cesspit but am quite enjoying his contribution.

The woke really don't like it. I think the characterization of wokesters as humourless is pretty accurate. However I think the concept of taking the piss is lost on the majority of Americans (do they even have a phrase for it?)

Oooh, I like this one.

If you can't control your own emotions, you're forced to control other people's behaviour.

Yup.

He's on fire this morning and he doesn't give two hoots that he's upsetting the Okey Cokey Wokey Folky. They really don't like people not agreeing with them.

This is not his first Rodeo - he displeased the Establishment 40 years with Life of Brian etc.

A different decade, a different gang of purse mouthed finger waggers.

He is great isn't he?

I don't think he intentionally waded into the trans thing this morning, he was asked by another poster about the JKR letter he signed weeks ago.

He responded with this tweet which caused the uproar. How dare he be indifferent to trans issues or point out that there are more pressing concerns in the world. According to one twitter user this is confirmation that JC "hates my guts" Good grief the drama, I haven't heard that expression since I was about 8 years old.

I find all the "As a life long fan, I'm asking you to stop" replies quite amusing.

What are they trying to say?

"You have no right to freedom of expression because I own the Fawlty Towers boxset."?

"I saw Monty Python on TV when I was eight so now I have the power of veto over your words and actions."?

If they think he's wrong and want to change his mind then why don't they explain why he's wrong instead of just telling him to stop?

Perhaps they can't...

^ Yes, my understanding is superficial

One thing: When a woman who was once a man is competing against women who have always been women, I think she has an advantage, because she inherited a man's body, which is usually bigger and stronger than a woman's

Does that prove phobia?^

It proves a clearer understanding of that issue than those who pretend it's actually complicated.

And the first reply to that is someone telling him he obviously hasn't done his research and it proves his ignorance 🙄 I suppose Ross Tucker hasn't done enough research either, eh?

The only proof good enough for them will be a dead or paralysed woman. That's what they mean when they say they want more proof that men playing against women is dangerous and unfair. And even then, no doubt it won't count because it's only one woman.

I think he's having a lot of fun by the looks of it. He doesn't give two hoots and he doesn't have to, no one is going to threaten to rape him. Good for him, I say.

Fallon Fox breaking Tamikka Brents' skull didn't count. Probably Brents' fault for having an 'eggshell skull'.

Cleese is great.

On a serious note, I think EmpressWitch has it exactly right re Tamikka Brents, etc. Some influential activists won't care if one or a dozen or a thousand women are seriously injured or die as a result of the policies they promote; they've made it very clear that they believe the feelings of male people come before the safetylet alone the opportunities, dignity and comfortof female people.

On a much lighter note:

However I think the concept of taking the piss is lost on the majority of Americans (do they even have a phrase for it?)

Hm, as an American who lived in the UK for several years, I think "taking the piss" has a few usages, no? (Please do correct me if I'm wrong; I find language totally fascinating!)

In the generally friendly sense of "Don't worry, I'm just taking the piss" I think Americans would say, "Don't worry, I'm just messing with you/fucking with you [v vulgar]/breaking your balls [v vulgar and mostly appropriate if you're Tony Soprano]."

In the sense of "This is ridiculous; are you taking the piss?" I think Americans would normally say, "This is ridiculous; are you kidding me?/You've got to be [fucking] kidding me."

In the sense of "using cutting humor to deflate self-important/arrogant/unreasonable behavior," hmmm... I think the concept of "snark" applies?
