John Cleese seems to be having fun on Twitter this morning. It may be a cesspit but am quite enjoying his contribution.

Haha yes he is indeed!

Norma27 Sun 22-Nov-20 11:52:29

He is brilliant. I was crying with laughter at his replies.

The woke really don't like it. I think the characterization of wokesters as humourless is pretty accurate. However I think the concept of taking the piss is lost on the majority of Americans (do they even have a phrase for it?)

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn Sun 22-Nov-20 11:53:47

Just started following him.

magicstar1 Sun 22-Nov-20 12:00:24

He’s been stirring it for months...I love watching it.

yourhairiswinterfire Sun 22-Nov-20 12:02:13

Oooh, I like this one.

If you can't control your own emotions, you're forced to control other people's behaviour.

Yup.

BaronessWrongCrowd Sun 22-Nov-20 12:14:22

He's on fire this morning and he doesn't give two hoots that he's upsetting the Okey Cokey Wokey Folky. They really don't like people not agreeing with them.

grin

This is not his first Rodeo - he displeased the Establishment 40 years with Life of Brian etc.

A different decade, a different gang of purse mouthed finger waggers.

Thingybob Sun 22-Nov-20 16:21:58

He is great isn't he?

I don't think he intentionally waded into the trans thing this morning, he was asked by another poster about the JKR letter he signed weeks ago.

He responded with this tweet which caused the uproar. How dare he be indifferent to trans issues or point out that there are more pressing concerns in the world. According to one twitter user this is confirmation that JC "hates my guts" Good grief the drama, I haven't heard that expression since I was about 8 years old.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot Sun 22-Nov-20 16:24:01

I find all the "As a life long fan, I'm asking you to stop" replies quite amusing.

What are they trying to say?

"You have no right to freedom of expression because I own the Fawlty Towers boxset."?

"I saw Monty Python on TV when I was eight so now I have the power of veto over your words and actions."?

If they think he's wrong and want to change his mind then why don't they explain why he's wrong instead of just telling him to stop?

Perhaps they can't...

Thingybob Sun 22-Nov-20 16:31:01

They have no coherent argument so regress to toddler tantrums.

Nackajory Sun 22-Nov-20 16:32:06

Love that tweet. Also love okey cokey wokey folky as a description of the perpetually offended.

DrDavidBanner Sun 22-Nov-20 16:59:48

As a "life long fan" they clearly weren't paying attention grin

^ Yes, my understanding is superficial

One thing: When a woman who was once a man is competing against women who have always been women, I think she has an advantage, because she inherited a man's body, which is usually bigger and stronger than a woman's

Does that prove phobia?^

It proves a clearer understanding of that issue than those who pretend it's actually complicated.

And the first reply to that is someone telling him he obviously hasn't done his research and it proves his ignorance 🙄 I suppose Ross Tucker hasn't done enough research either, eh?

The only proof good enough for them will be a dead or paralysed woman. That's what they mean when they say they want more proof that men playing against women is dangerous and unfair. And even then, no doubt it won't count because it's only one woman.

No they really weren'tgrin

I think he's having a lot of fun by the looks of it. He doesn't give two hoots and he doesn't have to, no one is going to threaten to rape him. Good for him, I say.

Fallon Fox breaking Tamikka Brents' skull didn't count. Probably Brents' fault for having an 'eggshell skull'.

Ooooh, that's a good one.

Down with this sort of thing!

(FFS, he's been trending all day. They won't let up, will they, once they've sunk their fangs into someone's leg ...)

HecatesCats Sun 22-Nov-20 20:58:59

There's something pleasingly absurd about the whole thing.

persistentwoman Sun 22-Nov-20 21:00:40

He does seem to be gloriously unbothered by the pious woke doesn't he?

HecatesCats Sun 22-Nov-20 21:08:27

His indifference neatly highlights how overwrought many of them are.

HecatesCats Sun 22-Nov-20 21:15:34

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! Except for ALL the time on Twitter.
