Having read this article I’m astonished Liz Truss has appointee such a intellectual lightweight. Is this woman really saying women just need to try harder to overcome sexism at work?
Also note the use of the phrase gender discrimination by the Guardian hmm

Oh Christ.

She's clearly been chosen because her views accord to a Tory view of women's rights and equalities in general.

I don't know why anyone who voted for Tories expected anything different. The view that we can all pull ourselves up by our bootstraps if only we try harder and structural inequalities don't exist is basically the essence of Conservatism. Post-Thatcher, certainly.

Not that there was anyone else halfway decent to vote for, I get that.

There seems no middle ground. The alternative would be a wokester centring men.

Maybe that’s the plan - have a Conservative commissioner to act as a balance to the woke?

It looks like another of Liz Truss EHRC appointees has also got problems in actually understanding equality?

Working-class girls have been deprived of jobs that they love such as Page 3 girls and [Formula One] grid girls because other women disapprove of them. What happened to ‘my body, my choice’?

So is this all she thinks working class girls are good for - selling their bodies ?

It reads like a joke Boris view of women as 'totty'. Ghastly to read a woman writing it, but hey, that's presumably why she's been given the job.

A woman who started shouting about structural inequalities and the patriarchy would not have much of a career with the Tories.

Wow, that's depressing.

Following the Trump route in ensuring partisan appointees to all neutral organisations.

Interesting that they've chosen to comment on awful feminists and not the appalling rate of femcide during lockdown.

The Guardian could at least get the title right instead of making up one. It isn't an 'equalities' commission or commissioner but Equality and Human Rights. And the same goes for the Equality Act,.

Mind, it would help too if the Commission could understand the Act it is responsible for upholding. The government doesn't seem to care for the Commission but is that as a result of the direction it's taken in recent years, or because of a fundamental difference in substance or approach? It seems likely to stem at least partly from the perception of the more recent extreme emphasis on 'identity' and a dislike of that but also wishing to promote the idea of moving forward and upward and not dwelling on the past and its wrongs, which would distinguish it from the orthodox anti-discrimination lines of the Labour Party. The Commission appointments would reflect some of that. I get the feeling the government would rather the whole thing was run from the Cabinet Office.

What an idiot saying that working class girls. Are good for porn work and grid girls.

Girls. Not even women

I listened to a podcast by Jessica Butcher in an attempt to understand her views. Essentially she seems to have a lot of opinions based on her own experience as a woman...and then maps that on to everyone else.

The bit that annoyed me the most was when she suggested that part of the reason there aren't many women coders is because women's brains just aren't as well suited to it. Completely stupid opinion given that computer science used to be a female dominated profession before it became so lucrative. Ada Lovelace anyone?

What a shame.

Had never heard of her, thought I was being naive but nope. She seems so off for this.
