Dr. Ting performed Emily’s reassignment surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He created female anatomy that is fully functional.

Define fully functional.

Self cleaning? Full set with uterus, ovaries, female pelvic structure, that menstruates and can gestate and birth a baby through a muscular birth canal?

I’m going to guess fully functional means can put a penis in it.

It's like trans narrative bingo.

Am I the only one that feels like this? That I'm trapped in the wrong body?

Born in the wrong body.

As a young child, she changed her name and started dressing as a girl.

Stereotypes.

Dr. Ting considers it a life saving surgery, given the alarming rates of attempted suicide among transgender youth.

Suicide.

Emily's mother, Linda, says "And we knew the statistics and we knew we'd much rather have an alive daughter than a dead son.”

Suicide (again).

Emily says, "It's OK to be who you are and just present to the world as yourself.

But you have to completely change your body in order to present to the world as yourself. Confused

Emily is a youtuber but has been much quieter in the last year or so since having the surgery.

I find it abhorrent that a functional female anatomy is entirely defined by whether a penis can go in it. It’s such a heterosexual male idea of what female anatomy is.

It also reveals so much about why so many men can’t understand why the definition of woman does not include males. Do they actually think if there are some sort of breasts and a fuckable orifice that isn’t a mouth or an anus that makes a woman? Woman - has a simulacrum of adult female sexual characteristics that a man could have sex with. I despair. No wonder women’s rights are of no concern. We aren’t people to these men, we are sexual objects, brood mares and support humans.

As erm..interesting and less than attractive they are to look at, penises and vaginas are amazing things...all the stuff they can do, and feel, something that causes great distress pain and misery if they go wrong but also so much pleasure when all is right with them.

So much more than a hole or roll of skin..

Shows such little understanding of the human body

And once again, a complete failure of the the negatives: the infertility, the complete absence of sexual function, the lifelong wound issues, the increased risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease, the reduced bone density, the lack of brain development from puberty. All ignored.

Maybe it has something to do with an Intense after care schedule.

I've seen a thread where the dilation schedule was posted...it looked pretty heavy going tbh

I dont know how it all fits In along side regular day to day lives

"We knew we'd much rather have an alive daughter than a dead son"
is a script. It's been said over and over again, linked to bogus suicide stats, why don't journalists question this? The report is basically an advert for transition via medical intervention. It's not journalism and it's exactly what older TIMs want, to justify their existence with the earlier transitioning of kids. Of course a boy whose puberty has been blocked will look more feminine. I don't want to draw any conclusions from the fact that this family already had two sons, but I'd at least want to ask about that.

They are ignored because if you take the male view of creating a functional woman they are irrelevant.

infertility - use a different womb.
absence of sexual function - not necessary.
the lifelong wound issues - not their problem
increased risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease, the reduced bone density - men frequently leave women who can’t perform their sexual or support human roles.
lack of brain development from puberty - could actually be useful to create more compliance.

There’s so much misdescription affecting people of both sexes who transition, I don’t know how any patient can be asked to consent to multiple operations which claim to surgically create for them (with no quote marks or other qualifying words) a penis or vagina. The NHS choices website talks as if surgery can actually create opposite-sex genitals. That is an obvious medical impossibility. Medicine isn’t supposed to mislead.

That’s heartbreaking Sad

I went through that same checklist when I read it, oldcrone.

“It’s OK to be who you are” (but this will require hefty medical intervention).

Sometimesonly · 22/11/2020 06:31

And how many people reading this will actually come away with the idea that it IS possible to create a fully functional female reproductive system? This is not journalism, it's propaganda.

Here’s what I can’t understand. If these kids had Body Integrity Identity Disorder they would be given hefty counselling and mental health support, not fast tracked to amputation or paralysis. Why are professionals so afraid to challenge this?!

I'm not sure who GenderHQ are as I haven't come across them before but they appear to be US based and pushing back against the narrative. This was posted on twitter in connection to the OP article.

Regarding using colon grafts to create the neo-vagina I had been wondering about some of the aspects of this surgery as I have dealings with people who have had colon surgery for medical reasons and it certainly isn't a straightforward complication free procedure you would choose for no good reason. Anyway I was interested to read this as I had been wondering about the very same thing:

"Colon grafts must be screened for colon cancer and should be monitored if the patient develops inflammatory bowel disease"

I suppose this type of surgery is relatively new and these long term consequences will not be apparent in a statistically meaningful way for some time.

I assume Emily must have had a colon graft or other inventive procedure as puberty blockers from a young age would have meant there wasn't sufficient penis to work with.

Oh Dr Ting! One of the two surgeons who operated on 17 year old Jazz Jennings - and argued in the operating room with the other surgeon about what they are cutting. Fucking cowboys.

The clip of them arguing is from Jazz's third surgery - they have since had a fourth surgery, because their genitalia has been so utterly fucked up.

Watch and weep

Oh god it was him?

I actually thought dr ting came across as a bit more , well he seemed more realistic and the sensible one , the one who was actually around afterwards fir any potential issues when the original surgeon was no where to be found.

I thought he was better than this.

Disappointed to say the least

Oh yes, the other surgeon, Marci Bowers, themselves a AGP trans woman is by far worse of the two. When Bowers saw Jazz after the 2nd or 3rd surgery Bowers said to Jazz, in front of Jazz's mother, who laughed "I've seen so many pictures of your vagina you could be a porn star"

A surgeon saying this to an underage patient.

What. The. Fuck.
