I think Ross Tucker is very much done with this bs now! I remember the days when he was much more “it’s a difficult issue/we need to be kind” but the TRA have of course destroyed that

Why did I expect these major sporting organisations to have any integrity after the sexual abuse scandals, the blatant sex discrimination & misogyny and the doping scandals. They've been handed the green light to cheat - it's 'progressive' and 'kind' don't you know, to let boys take places from girls. Bingo! Organisations with zero integrity hear the call and take the opportunity.

Little reminder about the integrity of USA gymnastics:

What did it take to bring down Dr Larry Nassar - the USA Gymnastics team doctor who abused hundreds of young women?

Why did the abuse continue for more than two decades?
^
And did USA Gymnastics (USAG) cover it up?^

The more this happens the more World Rugby shines like a beacon of best practice and humanity.

The Nasser sexual abuse scandal shows just how little USA gymnastics thinks of female gymnasts.
You would think that they might have learned something from it but it appears not.

Women's Gymnastics is one sport where men might not have any advantage. Vault, maybe but beam - certainly not.

Looking at the typical height and body shape of top female gymnasts, very few men would match those.

Vault - definitely. Uneven bars - definitely. Floor - tumbling and upper arm strength definitely. Why would anyone favour robbing women of the right to perform in their own category? How do women benefit from this? Do make sure you answer that last question.

Appalling decision. Even on beam where women might have a slight advantage because of lower centre of gravity, men will have more strength to tumble and perform handstands etc. Any male gymnast competing against females will be cheating!

Chamonixshoopshoop Wed 18-Nov-20 18:18:06

I'm an ex competitive gymnast. The men would have an advantage on everything.
Trust me!! Ive seen men who balance beautifully and choreography on beam is usually pretty simple
Good bye womens sport.

viques Wed 18-Nov-20 18:37:53

Wow. This means that in most countries girls will have no incentive to take up gymnastics. At a time when we know that even getting girls to try sports is an uphill battle we don’t need to put up barriers that discourage them from the beginning and tell them that no matter how hard they try they can never hope to succeed.

In other countries , eg China and Russia, there will unscrupulous and irreparable damage done to young vulnerable children who have probably never had a thought of being trans but who have the body shape and attributes of a potential gymnast. For some countries medals are all.

As someone on the Twitter pages up thread comments, if there was ever a sport that has a dubious history and doesn’t need further encouragement to manipulate the development of prepubescent children that would be gymnastics.

jcurve Wed 18-Nov-20 18:55:40

It’s a really shit decision.

Men could absolutely dominate in women’s gymnastics. There is such an emphasis on skill difficulty in scoring. A cleverly constructed beam could easily have sufficiently difficult acro skills (tumbles) to overcome a lack of male flexibility on leaps.

Even Simone Biles would only be a good to potential medal contender if she competed in mens gymnastics whereas in womens she is virtually unbeatable on 3 events. Her difficulty does not stack up against men.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines Wed 18-Nov-20 18:56:01

The men would have an advantage on everything.

I saw a youtube video on this - I'm pretty sure it was beam, then bars, then floor, although I can't remember exactly - a male gymnast doing the normally female events, and a female gymnast reacting - she was amazed how quickly and easily he was able to do things that took her years to achieve - purely because of his much greater strength.

This is a different one - but same result/reactions.

As far as I'm aware, rather like with skating, male gymnasts have the physical advantages to incorporate the higher scoring moves. Female gymnasts have developed the skill to catch up with some of that, but males will always have the advantage over them.

Not to mention, why do female humans with female biology just not have the right to have sports of their own? Oh. Because male people don't want them to and females only get what male people don't want for themselves and will let them have.

Be kind girls. Hand over what you've fought for to those who didn't fight that battle, don't give a crap about that battle or about females or the damage they're doing and don't see the importance of anything but themselves.

334bu Wed 18-Nov-20 19:37:10

Any transwoman athlete who chooses to compete in women's sport is a narcissistic cheater.

ChateauMargaux Wed 18-Nov-20 19:55:33

I imagine that after a few years we will see a gradual change in the style, the techniques and the judging which will confer even more advantage to male born competitors.

The sporting world has forgotten why we have separate categories in the first place!!

NotBadConsidering Wed 18-Nov-20 20:18:29

It doesn’t matter if they have an advantage or not. Women and girls’ sport is for women and girls.

Winesalot Wed 18-Nov-20 22:19:57

One of the tweets replying to Ross brought suicide stats into their argument.

They stated something like wasn’t less suicides worth females winning a few less medals.....

Unbelievable! That someone fully believes the answer to make mental health issues is for females to lose their opportunities. That someone fully believes the answer is to penalize women and not improving mental health care access. Of course, the female gymnasts who have trained and suffered for that opportunity, their mental health doesn’t count. Their lost opportunity doesn’t count.

HecatesCats Wed 18-Nov-20 22:27:54

The question for female centred organisations should always be: how does this benefit women?

Answer that question first, above all else.

The rest is anti-bullying policy and psychological support.

CaraDuneRedux Wed 18-Nov-20 23:18:56

This is yet another FFS moment.

Why can these woke wankers not see they are destroying women's sport? We're going to end up with men's sport for male people who like performing masculinity and men's sport for male people who like performing femininity.

PotholeParadies Wed 18-Nov-20 23:44:52

Responding to the twitter comment about suicides, how does being obliged to compete in your sex category equate to social exclusion?

Social.exclusion would be if someone was proposing that anyone trans should be banned from competing in any category ever and banning them from attending sports training sessions, surely?

Otherwise where would it stop? Could I claim that not letting me on the girls football team, age 15, (on account of being rubbish) was social exclusion?

andyoldlabour Thu 19-Nov-20 00:17:38

My comment, looking at this as a male, it is totally shocking.
Some people are really wanting to destroy women's sport.
I really want to be transported to the 70's, this didn't happen.

bluebluezoo Thu 19-Nov-20 00:27:05

British gymnastics, and swimming, have been allowing transgender boys to compete as girls for years.

The kids I know gave up as puberty hit, so I don’t know if anyone has made the challenge at more advanced levels.

AndIquote Thu 19-Nov-20 00:32:12

On a flippant tack, does this mean the costume is the cheesewire crotch leotard held into position with tape? because we have to see the form of a female gymnast, whereas the men can wear baggy leggings and a vest.

Guineapigbridge Thu 19-Nov-20 00:33:23

@bluebluezoo you've given a good dose of reality there.

Perhaps we all have our knickers in a knot about a non-event?
