World Toilet Day: Thursday 19th November

This Thursday, 19th November, is World Toilet Day

www.worldtoiletday.info/

The United Nations estimates that 4.2 billion people do not have access to adequate toilets and sanitation. Around 2 billion of these are women and girls who are particularly vulnerable when they do not have access to adequate and safe toilets that are single-sex.

World Toilet Day, this year on Thursday 19th November, seeks to highlight the serious issues that arise when safe and adequate toileting facilities do not exist. The impact on women and girls when there are no single-sex toilets is known.

I did this film to highlight these issues and ask why single-sex toilets for women and girls are being removed.

I did not know that.
Their report says this, among other things:
"Hygienic, private bathrooms with clean, running water, sinks and soap will help women and girls manage menstruation safely and with dignity"

(19th November is also International Men's Day. This is not really relevant.)

Thank you!

Yes - there is ample evidence of what happens when women and girls don't have access to adequate and safe single-sex toilets. And it is clear that when organisations choose to, they can make sensible recommendations on the basis of this evidence.

Thanks, OP, will watch later. I've read a little about how important toilets/sanitation is when it comes to health and hygiene.

Thank you for this.

I read about hat happens to women while live in parts of India and have to use railway lines for latrines.

How about a day of action on 19th November to Keep Toilets Single Sex?

Lockdown means that stickering or leafleting is harder to achieve and a less effective protest.

Instead, why not make a submission in response to these 2 Government consultations?

  1. An open consultation on toilet provision for men and women:

www.gov.uk/government/consultations/toilet-provision-for-men-and-women-call-for-evidence

  1. The Women & Equalities Commission consultation on the GRA. There is a question on the single-sex exceptions in the Equality Act. The need for toilets to be single-sex fits perfectly:

This is an amazing video. Thanks for doing this. Really useful to pass on to other people, politicians, policy makers and so on.

That's a fantastic video, thank you!

And yes, sending something to the consultation is a good idea.

I thought UN women were the ones who say that woman is a formless blob or whatever.

They can't have it both ways but many orgs seem to be doing this and hoping people won't notice...

Just googled

UN women on Twitter

'"Trans women are women at the end of the day. Every woman is a woman. Women are multifaceted, intergenerational, international. They are limitless, formless ... women are the world.” -

They are limitless, formless ... women are the world.”

What are women then? What are they waffling on about?

Unwomen have lost the plot. Along with many others sadly.

Every woman is a woman. Women are ... limitless, formless ... women are the world.”

It's just so utterly meaningless! It doesn't DO anything! Of course every woman is a fucking woman, a word is a word. As for limitless- perhaps they are trying to say that sexism should limit women's lives?, but it's so woolly and fucking dim they can't apparently formulate that simple statement . As for formless, that is just fucking weird. In what way are we formless - in that I have less waist definition than I used to? That my hairstyle is a bit inbetweeny-growing-out? Am I a miasma or some kind of volatile organic compound? What do they actually fucking mean? I'm so sick of this nonsense.

So do women exist as a sex class with their own needs or not, UN?

they leverage us as a sex class when they want to say oh look aren't we doing good stuff. And then deny us a category of our own when it suits them.

Loads of orgs are doing this and it's pissing me off.

Just bumping this. WTD is tomorrow.

I'm trying to harness my brave and share the video on my FB and twitter tomorrow.

Is it transphobic to say "some males..." I don't think it is, but, I know that it will be immediately be flagged by some of my friends.

I really wish we could properly discuss the behaviour of some of the people she features in the video. The LGBTQIA+ communities, and people I know, don't want to be associated with the likes of JY - and yet I've never seen any of them condemn JY's antics.
