Start using Mumsnet PremiumChange.org facing legal action after removing petition to defend the definition of Woman
(9 Posts)Anyone seen this?
Posie Parker set up a petition for the Oxford English Dictionary to keep the definition of woman meaning just women, not males. It was in response to another petition asking the dictionary to add males in the definition,
Change.org removed Posie's petition because it was apparently identified as hate speech, in doing so they breached their own terms and conditions and are infringing the right to freedom of speech.

Interesting! bookmarked
Toby Young, general secretary of the Free Speech Union which has been supporting Mrs Keen, said that Change.org has launched a “pernicious assault” on her freedom of speech.
“I didn’t say anything offensive or inflammatory,” she said. “Time and time again, what I have recognised is that the word ‘woman’ is in itself seen as offensive.”
She's right.
Mrs Keen said she had published her petition in response to a separate petition – also published on Change.org – which called on the Oxford English Dictionary to update its definition of “woman” to include “examples of representative minorities, for example, a transgender woman, a lesbian woman, etc”.
A transgender woman, according to Stonewall, can be a man who becomes aroused by wearing women's clothes.
On what fucking planet is that the definition of a woman?

The planet that sees women as animated props at best, and an insensate backdrop to the psychodrama of men's lives, at worst. A costume, or a collection of stereotypes, there to be adopted by any man who feels an affinity to either - not living, breathing humans who differ to them in thousands of immutable ways in every cell of their bodies, are not created by clothing nor stereotypes, and are no less real, and equal, than men.
We're half the population - and when women find out what is happening, they get angry and they get involved, in my experience. More and more in this country are because they are losing their grip on silencing us, so the other side of the story is being voiced, and being heard, and effecting change to the dominant, permitted conversation. This is why pushing back on this assault on our rights to be part of the conversation is so essential, and well done that woman for not standing for our erasure.
Well this should be interesting.
I unsubscribed from Change.org because of this. Genderist petitions are allowed, of course.
I don't really understand why transwomen are so desperate to be something they can never be. Why can they not learn to love themselves as they are?
It's very sad for them but they will never be natal women. Biology.

I'm convinced some hate women. They don't want to be us, they want to replace us.
