Riot Girls - Radio 4 - is this the BBC trying to make feminism seem ridiculous

There are plays on Radio 4 in the afternoon under the title Riot Girls.

They claim they are no hold barred stories about women.

What they seem to be is one after the other showing women to be unable to behave in a sensible way, endlessly hysterical, and obsessed about men.

And I think all written by women.

So depressing that they have chosen these "stories" to portray women in the 21st century.

They're certainly punishing the poor woman this afternoon who left her children with their father. Halloween Hmm

Really not impressed.

I listened to a bit of this, then to save my sanity, switched off. My own mum left us when I was four.
The 10 minutes I heard of this play was so clunkily written and full of cliches.

Yeah I heard one the other day and it was all about some daft, super selfish, hypocritical woman who tries to set up a weird commune thing. But it turns out that her poor, patient, put upon husband was better off her after all!
"Ha ha these bra burners, eh? What they like?" Was the general gist.
Then I heard a bit of one yesterday where a strident bossy type had a much younger lover. It wasn't very good.

It's a shame really because comically written examinations of feminism can be very funny!
But what I heard of this wasn't. The characters were all so unlikeable.

The quality of script writing generally has plummeted in the last couple of years.

@PoulePouletteEternellement I haven’t heard it so nothing to add apart from your little “witch” emoji is perfect for the subject matter Grin

There have been 3 so far this week and I haven't been able to listen all the way through as they have been so ridiculing.

The setting up of a Feminist commune

And older woman who imports (traffics) a young husband

And today's about a chaotic woman who has lost custody of her children.

In all of them the women are made out to be their own worst enemies.

It should have been titled taking the piss!

Not surprised that the BBC would do this, but can you imagine them doing anything so superficial and silly about another group of people fighting for their rights.

(I bet there are women writers who would have leapt at the chance to have a play on radio 4. )
