Due to ‘transphobia’ natch.

His blog includes the whole correspondence but I couldn’t copy the link.

Can't wait for sexism to be banned!

This is also the episode which features the hilarious internet in a box storyline. Fortunately, it's still available on Netflix.

So dim. The trans joke is actually at the terrible boss's expense. As with much of these cancellations, people seem too stupid to understand what the humour is about.

I cancelled Netflix because of “Cuties”, but went straight to Daily Motion to rewatch the episode when I heard this.

‘The Elders of the Internet...know about me?‘

I’m so mad about this ( I saw it mentioned last week).

That's true up to a point, but much of the comedy arises from the fact that, as the Telegraph article points out, the trans woman fights like a man. There's a lot of comic book violence between her and Douglas, in which ultimately the trans woman comes off worst. It's very funny but I can see why they don't like it. (Though banning it is idiotic, obviously.)

That’s right.

Children dancing pornographically (actually doing it and being filmed this way) = fine.

Joke including a trans character (when the joke is not at the expense of the trans character) = deserves banning.

Well, that's important as well. I mean, let’s not beat about the bush. A transwoman (in real life) is biologically a man, therefore will fight like a man (think a tackling women in rugby etc).

At least she was played by a female character and not a man in a dress...??

I've never watched the programme so went on you tube to watch this clip. Why is the transwoman played by a woman not a man? If you weren't aware she was supposed to be a transwoman, ie came in at the end of the clip it just looks like a man beating up a woman.

Will they go after Ricky Gervais' depiction of a trans/age woman/girl now, too?

I'm going not guess not.

It is something of its time, though. There’s an episode of 30 Rock from around then too, where Tracey (black guy) and Jenna (white woman) decide to see who has it harder in life by trying to pass as the other, and it doesn’t get shown anymore. Watched it recently and there is a fleeting transgender gag in the mix of that episode as well. Wouldn’t call any of it ‘phobic’ or racist in intent, just daft comedy, but times have changed.

They haven't 'cancelled' or 'banned' it they’re just not showing it.

But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

I’m going to wait for Glinner’s reaction, but I think he thinks the trans depiction was, with hindsight, clumsy and he had learnt from it.

Trans people are entitled to respond to depictions of trans people. I think we can all learn and grow. Channel 4 can decide to show the other episodes more than this one.

It would be good if depictions of disabled people, women, etc were also revisited with today’s eyes with such thoroughness. That doesn’t mean the artist needs to be cancelled, just updated/more recent work by them promoted.

What of Glinners is under shown, and I should watch? I have digital tv and I’m afraid, Amazon Prime?

This seems to be quite common. I think Orange is the new black is the only time I have seen a transwoman play a transwoman.

This episode was 2009, April Shephard makes a very appealing character, and is clear that she is trans to her new boyfriend. The boyfriend is Douglas Reynholm, the ridiculous boss played by Matt Berry and is portrayed as very much in the wrong.

In 2009 this is the way those roles were cast. The actress is Lucy Montgomery who has other overlaps with Graham’s circle!
