Leeds City Council “opening a second managed prostitution zone” in East Leeds

According to Julie Bindel on Twitter, a Labour councillor has confirmed the rumours. Apparently its because the independent review was so positive and will take some heat off Holbeck if the trade can dilute to another zone as well!!!

Wtf??? Crossgates East Leeds apparently.

Fucking fuckers. I can't manage anything more articulate at the moment.

And note that they are shitting on women in the poorest areas of the city.

This is bloody awful.

Oh good god. How many women do these men need access to? Who benefits from this? Those women who are selling their bodies for a few quid aren’t. What about the funding going into a shelter for them? A rehabilitation centre? Are these women given better access to clinics? Addiction support? Real help and support with their children? Ways to re train? I’m sure they say it’s offered but what’s the take up? Whose patrolling and ensuring their safety? Bastards.

I don't know how they get away with this.

Interesting choice of location....

Like Holbeck an area of the city that is disproportionately economically disadvantaged.

I wonder how many woke liberals would be cheering if the second district was in the affluent woke/hipster enclaves of Leeds like Headingly or Roundhay...

I'd also like to know how many Leeds Councillors live in Holbeck or Crossgates?

Horrific.

Is there anything is non - Leeds residents can do to protest against this?

Report
CrankyCrog · 23/09/2020 16:48

Is there a source for this anywhere? Google isn't throwing anything up.

I grew up in Crossgates and my parents and friends still live there. It's not as naice as e.g. Roundhay but a perfectly decent and ordinary residential area where they're building a lot of new houses and new bars and restaurants had been opening pre covid. The idea that they would put another zone there is unthinkably horrific.

MyBedIsMyDesk · 23/09/2020 16:52

I suspect it is actually Cross Green, which is a more 'industrial area' and not Crossgates.

Having it in Crossgates makes no sense whatsoever. It's a residential suburb with no history of a red light area.

Dreadful that they want to extend this awful scheme.

Report
Summerdayshaze · 23/09/2020 16:52

Maybe it’s the Crossgates ward, which could be round the old industrial buildings? I’m wondering if JB not familiar there is an area and a ward? A lot of Crossgates isn’t in the Crossgates and Whinmoor Ward.

There have long been rumours that it was an option to take the heat off Holbeck. Maybe the Holbeck councillors have had enough? Or Hilary Benn has told Richard Burgon that he has to take some of the approach???

So clearly there aren't enough women and girls being harassed, assulted akd/or bundled into cars and raped, they want to encoursge it to happen more.

All so men can get laid.

Time for all the women and children in Leeds to move somewhere else. Imagine a city just full of blokes - women are clearly not safe or allowed free speech there anyway so why not. Enjoy your "managed zone" then, lads.

WTF?? So angry about this.

CrankyCrog · 23/09/2020 17:03

Cross Green is more likely than Crossgates (aside from the fact that any managed zone is horrific), there are some small industrial estates still left in Crossgates but they're near the new builds on the old Vickers site and the new Springs retail park. I can't see M&S and Next wanting to share their patch with this kind of monstrosity.

TikTakTikTak · 23/09/2020 17:05

That is fucking ridiculous. Leeds Councillors ought to be ashamed of themselves. Women are not for sale.

Men demanding sexual services are such a powerful demographic. Poor women in Leeds being led by a council like this.
