Amazing! No to self-ID.
Thank you to all the women who fought against this, and who alerted the rest of us to the danger. I hardly dared hope that Liz Truss would stay firm on this. In fact I hardly dare believe it now...
She is speaking at 11.30 in Parliament on Wednesday so not long to wait to find out.
The Times is supposed to be fairly reliable on this.
Oh please. Oh thank any gods listening if it's true.
And let's continue digging - we need clarity about the Equality Act to really nail down protections for women and girls.
I hope so!
I really hope this is true!
God, I hope so.
Fair Cop tweeted a bit from the article that says 70% "backed self id", but officials are aware the results were skewed because of spamming from TRAs.

I hope they're also aware of the absolute shit women have been put through because of all this. I want to hear Liz Truss publicly acknowledge that women's SEX based rights and protection matter too.
Changing gender to get cheaper but ‘self‑identify’ scheme is off

I can’t read the whole article, but is the only concession to identitarians to make it cheaper? If so, I am fine with that.
Hopefully that will work 👆

“ Polls suggest voters are sympathetic to trans rights but do not support transgender women with male anatomy having access to female-only facilities such as prisons and changing rooms.”
Thank you for the share token, @BetsyM00
That’s brilliant in theory, but let’s be honest, far too many organisations are accepting male bodied (in particular) people self identifying trans into areas that are supposed to be for females only. This is great, but we still have a long way to go, before women and girls regain their rights to their feelings of dignity, privacy and safety, to be respected. This is the first step and hopefully can be as evidence that these organisations are completely wrong.
Oh, Betsy and Toseland got there faster!
If it’s true it’s amazing!
self identifying *as trans...
If you read the Hansard report when gender certificates were being debated, they reckoned there wouldn’t be more than five thousand people tops who would apply for a GRC. And sure enough the total number of people with a certificate is 4900. I really don’t think that making it cheaper is going to open the flood gates any.
I think it’s very good they have held fast to the idea that being trans at the very least requires gender dysphoria - you need a diagnosis to transition.
Key extract:
“A government source said: “We think that the current legislation, which supports people’s rights to change their sex, is sufficient.”
Polls suggest voters are sympathetic to trans rights but do not support transgender women with male anatomy having access to female-only facilities such as prisons and changing rooms.
More than 100,000 responses were received to the consultation. Insiders say 70% backed the idea that anyone should be allowed to self-identify. However, officials believe the results were skewed by responses generated by trans rights groups.”

Yes, I thought that was very strong and concise, language. I’m surprised they actually confirmed that the vote was basically fixed.
Really hope this is true. If so, the TRAs game didn't work. There are going to be some epic tantrums.
Followers of Stonewall law are likely to carry on regardless. We need Liz Truss to state very clearly, in no uncertain terms, no exceptions, that single sex spaces are to remain single sex.
Including schools and prisons.
Well this is excellent - the war is not yet won, but it sounds like we've won this particular battle ✊

Agree. Organisations such as the CQC are interpreting it as they see fit and being very dogmatic about it, despite there being countless vulnerable women at their mercy. It requires an effective Comms campaign though and the govt appear to be struggling in that area.
Including schools and prisons.
The article specifically mentions prisons and changing rooms, so I'm hoping to God they knock putting TW in with women on the head, and make it absolutely clear to everyone that women are entitled to their own spaces, and our rights are NOT transphobic.
