The annual representatives meeting of the BMA is taking place today. Motion 4, which starts at 12:00, relates to the GRA and trans healthcare.

I believe the BMA has been completely captured. I would be surpised if that didn’t pass unopposed. Still, we can hope that some sane women attend...

yep that'll get waved through

I see it lumps in a load of different issues together - like under 18 health care with the rights of trans employees to be treated properly and you have to vote for the whole lot so its impossible to discuss it sensibly

Yes and the right to access healthcare in setting that match gender identity, which I assume means single sex wards.

the last speaker for the proposers was maddening.

The speaker with the dodgy sound who identified as being against was surely for and threw in Stonewalls 48% statistic

Who is this bloke now?

Report
PaleBlueMoonlight · 15/09/2020 12:31

it is the fact that there are so many untruths being stated

And massive misrepresentation and reliance on dodgy research. It is quite shocking hearing it all in this kind of forum.

I always thought that Drs were intelligent but they came out with some rubbish including one witnesses that stated sex is mutable.

So all parts passed sadly

Thank you to those three sensible Doctors who spoke against

How is the BMA or the NHS going to guarantee everyone the right to be treated in a setting that matches their gender identity when there are 98 genders (or 130 by some counts)?

Is that what the Nightingale hospitals will be used for post-pandemic?

Reading Pride has put the number at 317 NearlyGranny although I'm sure that figure is outdated as I type.

I suspect the under 18 health care is a response to current court cases to protect children from harmful life changing treatments to which they cannot consent or at least should not be allowed to consent. It is not a benign motion.

I am shocked that the BMA’s influential Medical Ethics Committee has had nothing to say about preserving single-sex health care environments. Also that they’ve had nothing to say about the unevidenced, unresearched, invasive and permanent transitioning of children and young people, when NHS whistleblowers have said that these young patients are not being given adequate prior investigation nor appropriate mental health support.

Hi @Thingybob I can't access the actual debate, just a three minute promotion from the BMA. Any ideas?
